My Tamiya Hornet isn't working!!!

Hi all, I got my Tamiya Hornet a while ago and just bought some new batteries as my 2200s had blown, I got 4500 ones this time. When I tried it, it made a really strange sound (not the usual smooth running sound) but also when I had it off and I shook it I heard a rattling in the gearbox so I opened it all up and found a screw and in there, tried it again before putting it all back together and it sounded better.

But after putting it all back together it still didn't work! I put a fully charged battery into it and the wheels span round when I had it upside down (but still making that horrible running sound) on the desk but it simply didn't have enough power to move itself on the floor. I think I made to get a new motor but am not sure.

Any help's appreciated!!!

Are any gears stripped? Is the pinion gear on tight?

If it's still making a lot of noise, I would bet you damaged one (or more) of the gears.

If you roll it on the ground with no power on, does it make similar noises?

no not at all. The noise when I try using it is really loud and crackly. Also I have looked at the gears and am sure everything is in place

I would tear the gearbox down, and figure out where the screw that fell out, came from.

Possibility too. Pull the motor, hold it and give it some throttle to see if it sounds noisy.

I still bet it's a stripped gear, possibly the spider gears in the diff.
