Simple than someone my think, a small magnet in the bottom of stick, moving near a $5 magnetic Hall sensor, as the ubiquitous 5883, known to all multicopter guys, which outputs 3-4000 steps resolution, easy to ready by any MCU via i2c. Nothing to wear in time, except bearings. |

Open source but you can't see it, for a system that doesn't exist [yet] and if you don't pledge enough money he'll roll up his carpet and close shop. Or perhaps say he's good to go, rake in the pledges, and go....to parts unknown.
If he is honest and a part of me hopes that he is, he's doing this in a bad way. The good thing about it is that he's raised the bar for all the rest of the manufacturers. Richard |

Would have thought that there would be another way for him to get funds but I suppose he knows what he's doing!!??!?!?
My thoughts are that someone else will pinch his ideas and and end up with the big boys making something like this instead leaving him out in the cold. I have considered manufacturing something from ideas I have had in the past but never did it cause the cost is too much and once you show it can be done someone will do it cheaper and you get nothing for your trouble, patents are just ignored and then cost you more to take them to court. It's shame cause lots of people have lots of good ideas but never do anything about them for this reason. |

You and I both, Nigel. Genious is not just in the idea but bringing it to reality. Fear is just one hurtle.
FrSky has pledged their nickel so perhaps the X16D may have more than a passing resemblance. Richard |

If your idea is viable , by showing you actually put it to use FIRST- goes a long way to retaining it . Patents ? Unless you have $$$$$$ behind you - forget it - just do it There are patent layers who will bleed you dry and provide no protections . You are NOT protected by a patent YOU have to also protect that patent - diligently Been there |

Feature request for FrSky:
Can you please endow these radios - at least the 12 and the 16 - with the facility to replace the stock stick springs with ones offering much greater resistance. It's become something of a trend among 3D and aerobatic pilots. Stiffer springs make unintentional input less likely, and they provide more "separation" between the two channels sharing the same stick. Even if it's necessary to buy the stiff springs separately, or from a third-party, that's OK as long as the gimbals are designed to be capable of dealing with significantly greater tension. Ta. |
