Electric Northstar

Planning on building another Northstar as I regret having to sell my old one with only ever getting a total of 11 flights on it before I was forced to sell it. This time I want to do it fully sheeted, glassed and painted with electric power.

I fly electric heli's but I need some help with figuring out the proper Motor/ESC/Combo i'll need. I want power equivalent to an OS .55

Suggestions?

Hi,

Check how large diameter prop you can have to get prop clearance to the top of the wing.

Check with ecalc http://www.ecalc.ch/motorcalc_e.htm?ecalc
what temp, amp and watt (P(out) you get with various props.
Try APC Electric E prop. I checked briefly and with the motor, ESC (max 60 amp) and 6 cell 3700 25-35C LiPo I got with 16x8 prop 723 watt as P(out) and a mixed flight time about 8,7 minutes (minus 20% since You should not drain the battery more that you have 20% capacity left after flight, that mean about 7 minutes mixed flight time in your case).
723 watt is about 1 hp (746 watt = 1.0 hp).
Lets say the Northstar will weight about 7 lbs
http://shop.balsausa.com/product_p/455.htm
That will be 723/7 =103 watt per lbs and should work OK for sport flying.
