Help!
Hexacopter HK V3 FC Frimware Help!?
hello all!
im new here but this is by no means my first rc (although one of few without wheels lol) - i can fly, so dont lecture me on learning how first I recently built a hexacopter and cheaped out on electronics (see list of equip below) just so i could get it in the air (mistake #1). I went to fly it for probably the 10th time and had, until this point, become pretty confident in some easy flying and simple maneuvers. it was only slightly windy (mistake #2), but a gust caught me pretty good and i ended up eating pavement from ~10ft (mistake #3). equip: HK 1100kv motor x6 Turnigy plush 25a esc x6 HK V3 FC Spectrum Dx6i 8x4.5 props moral of the story is that i need to find a better firmware for the cheap hobbyking V3 FC - i believe I'm atH6 V1.6 right now, but it has some deep hidden nasties that make flying not so fun. can someone please recommend a better/stable firmware that will get me by (as in not freezing up while at a rediculous AOA) until i get a hold of a Quadrino board? Thanks! |

I too am curious about this. I have seen videos of some smooth flying hex's runing an HK board but have yet to figure out what firmware to use. I tried most all of the options in the flash tool but none of them fly very well. I can fly a normal quad using the HK board just fine but now that I am playing with that board on a hex it has been a difficult task to say the least.

I leaned into the forward stick right as a tail wind blew, and it simply would not respond to input - almost like a freeze up of some kind because the wind overwhelmed the board - then it quickly snapped back as i had controlled it (very violently) but it had already covered far too much distance (--->lightpole--->parkinglot--->broken) im sure my lack of experience contributed to the crash, but i had been doing similar maneuvers all day with no problem whatsoever the guy who helped me get this off the ground initially had mentioned he noticed a slight control delay/lag/break, but we dismissed it as we were flying very close to the ground |

For me the hex is almost non responsive. Everything is very laggy including throttle punch. Maybe I just have the wrong version of firmware loaded. Does anybody know of a list someplace of useable hex firmware for the HK Board?
I tried all the Minsoo Kim FW and the esc's wont arm. I then tried the Mike Barton and am on 1.5i or something like that. On my kkMulticopter flash tool the firmware from those two names are all that is available. Did I possibly load the wrong version? |

ok guys it is very important to keep track of what you put on the board as they are not the same and sometimes not even close. The biggest thing about xx software downloaded from multircshop is it is written for Dan's kk+ board. It works fine but 1.6 is meant for mems gyro/accel board and ppm rx. Also to use any of the XXx.x you need a serial display in order to change settings, the pots do not work. Once you get it working it is very responsive if you set it to be. The other hex software is KR 2.5 from Minsoo Kim. You can go to kkmuticopter.kr site to get the firmware and read the online manual. KK also made a hex firmware but it is based on his earlier work and does not do heading hold. His firmware is tame on the sticks unless you mod it to be more responsive.

Great stuff man! I was rushing to get the board working so I just went with the first one I found to work (add to list of mistakes). I'll try a few of the ones you just mentioned since they are known to work Thanks! |

you can get a good imu for $50 and then build the Arduino on some perf board for 10$: http://dduino.blogspot.com/2011/12/q...build-log.html

The biggest advantage of multiwii is the additional sensor support. As far as flying gyro only there are some firmwares that run on kk type hardware that outperform multiwii in acrobatic flight. Since I am not talking about an HK KK board that does you little good unfortunately.
If you seriously plan to go with MWC down the road then you could go ahead and get the usb to serial ttl converter and then you could use Blackcat's LCD emulator software to show xx1.5i settings on computer screen. You would need the ttl converter for MWC anyway. |

I've done hours of reading today alone trying to learn the ins and outs of all the board options out there, still not sure what will be optimal i plan to fly acro only, have been since day one, so gps and such aren't really a constraint - if i want to do all of that ill build a second copter. what would be the most popular acro oriented setup? (that will be a very opinionated answer of course) |
