Can't wait to get mine started and finished.
I know from the various threads everyone has had issues with getting weight forward. I'm planning on 6s 5000mah lipo(2x3s in series) and a 4130-16 axi motor with a 16x8 prop & 85amp sbec. Already static tested and this set up provides 1250watts at 46amps.
I'm planning move everything as far forward as possible, lipos through the bulkhead, esc on the engine mount, servos moved forward.
Is there a possibility this can be too much weight up front ???

I'm aiming /hoping for around 8lb - 8.5lb auw which I thinks plausible.

Any got thoughts on my set up.

Andy, your setup sounds good. More than enough power and most likely, full throttle will make it go almost vertical No, I don't think you can put too much in the nose and chances are you will still need some lead.

Lightening the plane....

Guys,

Check out this link on YouTube. I have been speaking with this guy recently.

Worth looking at and reading replies on the YouTube site itself.

That plane acts like a kite! Darn, I just made mine heavier with new wheels... Think I will leave the armor on as I am not as good of a pilot as that guy is and there is always a good wind at my field.

Smething to conside though no?

Nice mods..but i do wonder about wind...

I need to decide if its gonna be a calm day flyer or not. I am not certain how she even handles wind stock though, do you?

It handles good in wind while it is in the air. On the ground is another story. I find a 5 mph wind to be perfect and have flown in 15 or so.

LOL.

Funny how few fliers differentiate between in air and landing

Perfect info you gave me ( notice my tag line)

I thin I'll try to see what happens when I lighten her up

Landing this plane is not hard at all but the roll out is what can get away from you. I keep some power until it stops and that has made for nice landings.

3935g or 8.67lb in the old scales with a 4S 4000 pack. I found the further forward the weight the less it needed so all my lead is right up the front of the cowl and not on the firewall.

Thanks brother.

Its my next project after I finish the mods on my Polk's Dr1 build thread.

I'll be back here to let you guys know how the mods go on the Sopwith.
