Obama Refuses To End So Called War On Drugs

Even the absurd prohibition on marijuana.

This in spite of pleading from South American leaders desperate to end the violence this new prohibition is causing.

Obama is "right" on this one. Nothing legitimizes the police state in Colombia more than the War On Drugs®. Remember, this is a president who just signed a Free Trade® agreement with Colombia, a government that makes a sport of murdering workers rights advocates (around 200 since Obama has been president).

Absolutely.

In 2010, California had a ballot initiative called Proposition 19. It passed throughout the nine-county San Francisco bay area. It was defeated in the pot growing regions of Humbolt and Mendocino counties. The same growers who voted against legalization, thus preserving their astronomical profits at the expense of our freedom, $billions in taxes, and the lives of thousands of people to our south, are now crying that large-scale operations are being raided. Oh well. If they are going to vote against my freedom, I say arrest the venal . Once enough growers are felons and can't vote, we can do away with this stupid War On Drugs®.

There is only one candidate running for president that would agree with you.

If only Thomas and Scalia would have recused themselves in 2000 -- having been appointed by Bush Senior -- President Gore would have most likely issued an executive order the day after his re-election decriminalizing marijuana.

We SHOULD end the war on drugs and legalize pot, but most of this country is too Calvinist to go for it. Plus, if O went for it, he knows the right would shoot it down.

Which is irrelevant on multiple fronts.

a.) The American people don't want that.

b.) A President can't "make it so" - only Congress can.

c.) That candidate doesn't have a prayer of being nominated anyhow. See #1.

But you already know all that.

Actually, the president can remove MJ from Schedule I. Congress doesn't usually control the Schedules, the DEA and FDA do.

That isn't legalization.

And if Obama did that, it would be used against him. Many here in LTUP would immediately start singing a different song. The right across the nation would immediately be up in arms.

Nothing is going to change in this administration and certainly not if we have a Mormon President.

In reality it's a smart political move and rightly so, if he had supported such a move now he would have been labeled a pro drug, pro narco terrorist by conservatives. That's a no brainer.

Given most of your anti Obama posts, had the President voted in favor of this legislation, would you have voted for him based on that?

Now just a minute. You claim the war on drugs should end. Does that mean that heroin, meth and all that other life destroying crap would be legal?
