More Prime

TB laying down some more Prime and filling. Super Tam's red paint is bleeding through on the primer, will try a epoxy based primer to cover.

Axle

One of the issues with this A4 was with the Axle. Not sure if original owner used the wrong Axle or what...but the axles where too small and would not tighten in Strut. Original owner tried a half arse sleeve to thicken the axle, but it quickly failed.

Dave Pearson is going to make new Axles with a starting point design as attached.

What kind of primer were you using to start with?

Tam what is the red paint on the A-4?

Was it painted in the mold because my buddy tried to strip it off and even acetone did nothing to it. He tried citrus based paint remover as well, lol.

I have a few planes that need some sanding. LOL Well looks like your sanding is not to bad. I will try Dave's primer and my next project if I run out of SEM. I'm also just going to man up on the paint and go the Lacquer route. Rather than waist my time with enamel. I will sell that stuff off or something. But I'm sure Rich A-4 will be sweet like the rest of the birds you have painted. I need to buy a vinyl machine to make my stencils. I want to paint my stuff and the insignia as well.

Cannot wait to see this bird in the air. The camo was really good on the Viper, you could easily loose it in the haze of the sky on a blue sky kind of day. On a gray sky it will be flying silhouette.

Eddie I am using my standard solvent based lacquer primer I have used for years. It wont cover the red. Nor will acetone, citrustrip, paint remover remove the red as Chris noted above.

The primer wont cover the red color, so it needs to be sealed with either a sealer or use the epoxy primer recomended to me by my Dupont paint rep I fly with.

Jeff...................................NO, I dont want to sand anymore planes LoL. You are doing well on your own :-)

I think I will be painting the viper wing tips yellow for Rich to help for in air visibility

Viper

Yes it needs some visual aid for sure as that scheme is very hard to see.

So it should help.

have shot the epoxy primer this morning. nothing really to show other than more grey primer. After shooting it, the red is now sealed and not showing thru any further.

My plan is to start all the base painting this weekend, as I will be gone all of next week at Top Gun in Florida.

Maybe one of you guys could educate me on why the red paint (in the mold) is not able to be covered by standard solvent based primer?? Weird.

If I could explain it exactly as my buddy told me I would, I might have him come here and explain.

basically he thinks the paint may have lead in it, which is causing the color the "blush" thru the primer. no matter how much you put down.
