1/20 vs 1/24 fittings for 1/24 elco 80 PT boat? (mainly guns)

so ... my refit and update of my Proboat PT rolls along... slowly but surely (I hope to have it wet again end of this month) ...

the mechanical and electrical nearing completion it's time to change my focus to making the exterior better/more proper.. basically make it NOT a PT109 ... but same general boat ...

franks has some wonderful fittings

http://www.franksmosquitoboathobbies.com/fittings.htm

but how "off" will 1/20 peices be on the 1/24 proboat? ...

I think the 1/20 fittings would look big. The 1/20 HK fittings they are real sloppy, real old moulds.I talked to Frank a while ago and he said he was going to make his own in resin.I don"t know if he ever did

I don't know what weapons you are looking for, but I have not solved this problem yet, for my boat either. I would try to see if you can still find some of the H&R guns, cannot remember what they made in 1/24. Also. there used to be a 1/24 complete kit, made in England. I would scrounge around, before using the 1/20 guns. I agree, they would look oversize. Frank and I have had this discussion. It is probably going to come down to, making all new masters. As of the last time we talked, there had not been enough real order requests, to justify the time and money. It has just been, one here and there. It may come down to, when I need the guns for my boat, I will then have to make masters, as I did for the mufflers. But that project has been setting for several years. CaptCB

Reckless,

best advice I was given by a modeler on scale parts ( he did work for the Smithsonian Institute as a modeler) was it is better to be a bit smaller than larger as larger always seems to be way off when viewed compared to being smaller.

Perhaps you can just buy 1/24 scale fittings.

oooooo pretty stuff on those websites...

this is why I ask here ... and then get flooded and overwhelmed with sites to sift through

as for what guns I'm going with .... I'm really not sure... but seeing as I'm going down the detailed but lazy road ... probably just end up as an generic early PT

I converted my Pro-Boat PT boat to PT-141 in 1944 fit. The weapons all came from John Haynes in the UK-- great quality fittings and great service.

Ordering from the UK for shipment to the States is easy, and you usually get a 20% discount, as international sales don't have VAT.

Here's a shot of my boat:

1/24 PT Boat parts

John Haynes has gotten out of the 1/24 PT Boat production, and as such, will not be carrying any parts for them. Battlecrafts.co, does carry a 20mm, and a 40mm, that don't look to bad. What's involved in getting them, I don't have a clue. CaptCB
