Mid-Prop designs with airfoiled wings??
I'm looking for mid-prop designs that uses a airfoiled wing, for outdoor, windy days. The last one I built was a WildWing and you could really tell the loss of power, because of the thick airfoil.
But the flat plate designs seem too pitch sensitive and don't handle to well in higher winds. Any ideas?? Thanks, Butch |

Just apply some aerodynamic theory to the prop slot in your thick wing.
For a start, it should not be a slot. A larger cutout in front of the prop will quieten it down and increase the thrust. A smaller cutout at the back of the prop will help with this too. Next, fair the shape of the trailing and leading edges of the prop aperture (as now it's not a slot) and even do a bit of thinning of the wing behind the prop. |
