This site at Strawberry Field at Atlantic County SkyBlazers is a nice soaring site.
We fly SAM old timers contest here and it has a lot of lift and a lot of room. Well done to John for getting this site to use.

Nice to hear from someone who's flown there Warren. I was looking at it on the satellite view and it looked like it could be a very nice location. According to John, you can camp onsite too. Hopefully, he'll start a thread for that contest so more people find out about it.

Scoring

Hi,
I have a couple of questions that Iím sure have been addressed but I havenít been able to find answers and this seems like a good place to ask.
1. What makes 2 - one day contests score as one event?
1a. Why is a one day contest worth the same as a 2 day event? It seems to me that having 2 Ė one day scores is better for most pilots.
2. How does the ALES league get funded for the end of year awards?
Just wondering, Thanks
Kerry

Hi Kerry,

A primary goal of the ALES League is to get guys out flying at different venues, with different groups of pilots, enjoying the camaraderie of their fellow soaring enthusiasts. Hopefully, league participation will encourage guys to push their comfort zone a little, make that trip to the Nats or go to that contest in a neighboring state. Having, for example, 6 club members get together and fly a 3 day contest and submit 3 separate sets of scores is not really in line with what we're trying to accomplish.

Regarding funding, the 2012 trophies were donated by Soaring Circuits. One of these days, when I get some free time, I'd like to offer some ALES League merchandise for sale with the ultimate goal being the self funding of the league.

Nice flying with you in NC!

Reminder we're scheduled to make up the previously blown out ALES event this Saturday at Eastfield College in Mesquite.

Weather may again be an issue, we'll publish updates on the club website.
