Better than Keychain cam, cheaper than GoPro?

Hi guys,
I thought this would be the most suitable place to ask about this as you all have a lot of experience with camera set ups. At the moment I am using a key-chain camera to record videos and take stills from a JP Easy Pigeon glider (AUW 890g with battery), however I am finding that in lower light or even due to distance that the quality just isn't good enough for me :/
I can't afford a GoPro so that's out of the question, but is there anything in-between that would do a decent job? I don't mind soldering etc so that's no problem if it's needed and i'm relatively computer savvy so firmware etc isn't a problem either
Here's an example of the quality i'm getting now

So the question is, is there an intermediate camera between these that doesn't weigh too much? Which are the ones I have seen that look like a cylinder mounted to a black square used on FPV aircraft?

Thanks,
James

The timestamp in that pic looks to be from a standard def keychain camera.
There is an HD keychain camera available the # 16....https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show....php?t=1556994

Check the RD32 II, it's not only a 'in-between', it's a GoPro competitor and much cheaper.

Hello,

As a cheap intermediate between a key-chain and a gopro (in terms of price and weight) I use the HobbyKing "HD Wing Camera" which cost $37. I am quite happy with it.

I have posted a comparaison of the HK cameras with more details in post #69 here with some sample footage for each camera.

For example, the onboard recording of this video is taken with the "HD Wing Camera":

Summary of FPV Flights #2, #3 and #4 (2 min 38 sec)

Cheers!

Franck
