stock 9xr will not bind with v911 because it is a spektrum compatible radio. modules are available for $20-$30 that do bind. 9x works out of the box.
welcome to rcg. reading threads, or at least 1st few posts, often can answer many questions before they are even asked. btw v911 is one of my favorites too but i do still zip around inhouse with my old s107s. |

A really big advantage of the 9XR over the 9x is (so they say) the promise of better hardware and available spare parts.. This was really the big problem with the old 9x..
Hmmm, that makes me wonder If this 9XR turns out to be really similar to the 9x, perhaps the spares would fit as replacements.. Now, that would be nice. Let's hope.. |

No it won't work with the V911. Uses the Spektrum DSM2/DSMX protocol not FlySky. Made by a totally different company.
However it does open the door to all those BNF models such as the MCPx etc. BTW anyone who has the 9x should look into getting the V929 from banggood.com as you can buy it there without the transmitter (unlike Hobbyking) and the 9x works well with it and its free shipping. For about $32 you get a very good little quadcopter that is brilliant to fly. It's a 'must have' for those with a 9x. |

Your advice is well taken. I researched untill my fingers hurt. Like in my industry acronyms are so heavily used they offten make it sound as if you are speaking another language. My research led me to believe it wouldn't work without a module added but I wanted better assurance than "I think" and then find out that I was wrong. I may go ahead with the 9X with the idea that I can always grab a 9XR at some point. Thank you. |

Sure!!! I'm not sure which switches, but it appears to have 2 less. You can look at the other pics in this thread for other views of the 9XR to see better. Unless they just arent visible in any of the images. I myself find it hard to believe they left 2 switches off. It certainly appears that its going to essentially be a direct "copy" of the 9X electrically, so I dont see why they would have left them out. |

the 9x was a ccpp heli radio not a plane radio so several of the switches had little function otherwise. nor could they be assigned channels. they did little more than confuse most hobbyists so im pretty sure those were the ones removed. as i indicated yesterday that was one of the "bug fixes".

While probably 85% of all 9X buyers were new to the hobby, and just wanted a decent radio for cheap, they wouldn't necessarily know how to use those functions, and how they benefit the flying experience. That doesn't mean they shouldn't be there. If they don't know how to use them, thats on them, thats not a "bug" that should be removed. I will admit the stock 9X firmware is pretty crappy and makes use of some of these things difficult however. |

Patience is a virtue
All the endless speculation and bickering is most annoying and so very pointless.
There is enough evidence in the public domain to suggest that the 9XR is real and will actually be released and ship most probably some time before Xmas 2013. Whether it is this month, next month or six months from now will not be influenced in any way by the comments, complaints, threats or whinging on this forum or any other, so give it a rest. Similarly, the available evidence suggests that the project is in its final stages which means that the feature set, case design, RF system etc. are all finalised and they are most likely working out the last of the issues to get to release. So moaning about what you guess it may or may not have or do isn't in any way useful. For those who cannot wait, buy something that is shipping today. Otherwise be patient and once it is in users hands all the oft repeated questions about features, feel, inter-operability, performance and of course, price, will be answered. |

My first 9X I used for more than a year exclusively with 4ch airplane foams. Worked great with almost no configuration. Nowadays I use them for everything! But a better quality version 9XR will be very welcome.

Dave, allow me to disagree with you. I don't think that the switches on the 9x are "bugs" as you call them.. In fact I do wish it had a couple more would like another 3 position switch for example..
The original fw has airplane capabillity as well and it is logical that it has for example dual rates switches, switches to activate mixes, etc. And if you moved to the custom firmwares with voice and all that, you really need more switches |

ok, then what is your guess as to why hk dropped a couple? i have seen more than one person shelve his 9x because it was too hard to use. er9x didnt help. and comments were specifically made about "too many dag nab switchy/knobby thingies". in fact i have a backup unit now as a result of that phenomenon.
voice? lets leave that to skynet... err... i mean... ersky. this is a $50 radio. |
