er9x is released under GNU 2.0 - about as "free" as software gets. HK is not violating the license, just as PC manufacturers don't violate anybody's copyright by shipping HDDs with Linux pre-installed.

A few tips
The Tx "Doughnut" pattern represents Radiated signal strength Worst case is Tx Ant. pointing directly towards the Model (very low signal) Irrespective of the Rx Ant's orientation, in this case little Tx signal is available anyway. If the Tx Ant is Horizontal OR Vertical to the model Max. signal is directed towards the Rx IF both Rx Ant. are aligned at 45 degrees in the model (horizontal Or Vertical) One or the other will receive a signal, neither is in a Null situation. The exception to this will be IF a conductive object on the aircraft is between the Tx and Active Rx Ant. then the signal would be reduced. Another often overlooked factor is Wiring in the 'plane. Wiring in the same orientation as an Rx Ant. will absorb signal from the Tx making Less signal available to the Rx. I never orient Rx Ant's "Front to Rear" or "Left to Right" as you will always have Servo wiring etc, in these directions. |

I dropped the ball and ordered everything...
I ordered a Turnigy 9XR, FrSky Telemetry Module with a receiver, Telemetry display screen, Lipo Voltage sensor, sensor board, and variometer. Also ordered a lipo charger, because I had a 500 Ma charger, and charging my 2200 took FOREVER! I received $300 for christmas, more than I have earned the entire year. |

Oh, and I also am waiting for HobbyKing to replace a defective motor keeping my quad out of the air
All the BS is worth the savings though But waiting months for a Turnigy 9XR is a bit pointless I think. |

HK is at the moment violating the copyright by not publishing the code. It is a big deal for the handful of developers who have contributed thousands of hours to create er9x. A very big deal. |

It really bugs me that people preach about the GNU/GPL without reading it. In the first paragraph it explains that they are offering a "Copy Left" license, Hmm, You ever hear of anyone in violation of a copyleft?. That's because there's no such thing, GNU/GPL gives the little guys a false security that they are actually protected. This is why they recommend not getting a copyright, If I remember right it is addressed in paragraph 3. Anyhow, Anyone who has lost a legal battle concerning a GNU/GPL probably didn't show up for court thus forfeiting the case. In the 70's there was a guy selling property on the moon, The nations got together and agreed that no person could sell property on the moon and came up with some lunar law prohibiting the sale of property on other planets. The point is that anyone can grant or sell you just about anything they want as long as there's not a law prohibiting it. Whether or not a court determines if you actually own something is what matters.

Cannot someone just download the code and upload it ti the HK files tab? Or is it compiled into machine code?

Ballmer's "software cancer" (Having said that, I can't imagine HK would give a fig either way. Strict adherence to copyright and licensing restrictions is not one of their most notable qualities as a company. As for the er9x developers - tough noogies. FOSS is rarely a way to turn a profit or to see one's name in lights, sadly.) |

If anyone is interested I started a 9x hardware mod thread here.
https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show....php?t=1795146 It would be nice to pool ideas of how we can mod the 9x. I'm plan on modding my 9x as soon as it arrives. I probably will not need any new modules. I just need to find the 5 volts, ground and PPM lines which should be easy enough. I just hope there is enough room in the new TX. |

GPL is in no way a protection for anyone. It is the exact opposite. It is a protection for the free distribution of code and derivatives of the code. The whole idea is that anyone is free to use and modify the code without any restrictions. And the only thing you need to do in return is to provide access to your modified source code. GPL is actually a protection against copyright claims. A protection for the one copying the code, not for the copyright owner. You can not take anyone to court for breaking GPL. That is not a crime. But if anyone copies GPL code without following the license requirement, the license is simply not valid and there is no protection against copyright claims. And yes, suing for copyright violations can be very difficult indeed. As things works a single individual does not stand a chance against a corporation. But that is the way of the world and has nothing to do with GPL. |
