sand it - round?
Vic101's Avatar
Very nice work again!!

Btw, I have been using 40 micron blown stretch film from dean @ barrierfilm.co.za for my bladders. (They may give you a sample or else pm me your address and I'll send you some, it sticks to itself but not permanently so it can be folded up and unfolded again.) Industry uses it to wrap pallets of bricks etc. so it is fairly widely used.

Using that plus switching to baking paper instead of wax paper as per Adam's tutorial on making the bladders made a huge difference. No leaks plus a huge expansion rate

Works way better than black bin bags....

Thanks Vic!

I'll try to get some from Maizies.....
What's the difference between wax and baking paper?
Never mind, I'll ask my wife!

I never knew you were into the bladder thingy!
It's my 1st....
Thanks for the help!

Heh Heh - wax paper is a wimp version of baking paper
(for some bizzare reason the Pick'nNick store these two products in opposite ends of the store)
I detest doing seams by hand, the long stick or wire with wheels that snag the layup etc still gives me gaps every so often

But with the bladder...

I've not graduated to the full sand backing of my moulds yet, the 5mm glass layer has worked ok so far. You have gone first class with yours!!

Enjoying the tutorial

Yeah
The threads are cut once the mould halves have been positioned together. (Before clamping tight) and pulled thru leaving the seams in place! It's more about preventing the seams folding over and getting pinched!

Here is Jonas's vid:
Almost beats Dudley's famous sanding tutorial!

But, visuals really help understanding!

Here is video that I did recently on using a bladder and seaming. I don't like the string technique because it's one extra step. I like the staggered seam so I don't have to fuss with it.

BTW, you did a great job on your first bladder assisted part!!!

If I can stop breaking things, I may get going!

Sorry guys, I will try.....
The second nose cone has been cast with a paint in the mould finish.
The seaming and split line came out very nice.
Thanks Vic, the baking paper made all the difference when making the bladder!
I've started reshaping the plug, so lets see!

Looks really nice, J. Is what looks like fiberglass on the seam line just paint overspray? I'd like to see how you used the parchment paper, if you have any pix.

Johann I have rolls of sachet material x meters long and about 500mm wide. It seals very well, we can stand on our 1L sachets with one foot, full weight. The rolls I have lying here have printing defects, the material is fine otherwise. I can bring you one if you like. Might be handy for bladder experimentation. The ink can be wiped off with methylated spirits (rubbing alcohol). For our international folks I will explain the sachet concept. We buy our milk here in little sealed bags like this:

packed using machines like this http://www.labomat.co.za/products-em2.htm
Most of us load the sachet into a jug like this:

That's very clever and earth-friendly packaging. But can you pull it out of the fridge and guzzle milk straight out of the container like I do with our wasteful 1 gallon plastic milk jugs? It really makes my wife mad....but she's quit trying to stop me after 20-odd years.

I would guess chugging from the sachet would look something like this (not that there's anything wrong with this!)
