FMS ASW-28 (2300mm)
I didn't see a thread on this particular bird anywhere so I thought I would start one. If I missed the thread I apologize. I just got this plane today. It's EPO foam, comes with a brushless motor, 12x6 folding prop, 35A ESC and pilot.
Product Page is Here. Haven't flown her yet...Nothing but rain here in Seattle. Went together just fine, overall it seems like a decent quality ASW-28. If there's any interest I'll continue to post in this thread any updates and answer any questions if you have them. |

I'm interested in hearing more about it. I currently have a Radian Pro which I enjoy flying a great deal but would definitely be interested in something more scale, as long as it's electric. It may be my inexperience with finding thermals, but I don't think they're all that easy to catch around here so I usually motor up to as high as I'm comfortable and glide down.

I'll definitely let you know how it goes...I may have a chance to maiden this weekend. There's YouTube video of people flying theirs (just search "FMS ASW-28"), seems like a decent flyer. I've had fiberglass versions but this is my first foamy ASW-28. I wish the wheel was retractable but overall for the price it seems like a good deal.
I'm not a big fan of the black spinner (very non-scale looking) so I painted the spinner and props white so they don't stick out so much. |

I edited my first post...I mistakenly said it was EPP foam but it's EPO foam.

Hi Jim - I got mine direct from FMS (I am doing design work for them in barter for product). You can get it from PW-RC.com

Cool! I'm going to put my #16 keychain cam on her for the maiden...Hopefully this weekend...

Here's a few pics. I painted the nose and props white and painted the rudder and winglets red instead of the stock blue. I've ordered some decals from Callie Graphics which will be here next week to finish her off. Not a bad looking ASW-28 for PNP at $165 bucks!

Here is a video of the maiden. Flew excellent! I was expecting a bit more "cheap" feeling in this class but it flew similar to my composites I've had. Rolls, loops are easy, very predictable. Sorry the weather was poor. It was a quick flight between rain showers in my neighborhood. Very pleased!

And just like that, she's down for the count. Suddenly the lateral stability was poor and she wanted to roll immediately to the left. I don't know if it's the placement of the camera (right in front of the vertical stab on the base of the fuse) or what happened. I had a few great flights when suddenly it didn't want to fly anymore without rolling to the left. This video is actually the second crash after I repaired the front end. It was just as bad the second time. The lateral stability seems fine...It's not like the camera is placed off to the left like on the wing tip.
Strange. Bummer! I'll figure it out and repair her and try again.

It's one of those keychain cameras. Weighs next to nothing. It was fine when I filmed it from the vertical stab, I can't see how placing it lower but in the same longitudinal line as before would create a lateral instability. Not sure what you mean about the servo or esc? If you're asking if it was an electrical problem it's not. It acts like I put weight on the left wing tip.
I put her back together tonight. Gotta love EPO foam. A little putty, a little sanding, a little white paint and she's almost as good as new. I checked the CG again, the lateral stability test and everything seems just fine. I'll try to fly again tomorrow, without the camera this time and see if that is the problem. |
