Balanced the props (they didn't need much, I like that about Gemfans) and activated the gyro smoothing. Results were NOT good. Got a little more altitude (a few feet) but it developed a horrible... wobble isn't a strong enough word... It looked like a dog shaking water off itself. I tried a couple of levels of smoothing, to no avail. I'm really not sure what's going on. Going to try and reset the Naze to defaults and start configuring from scratch.

Reset didn't help much. I made a short video to see if anyone recognizes this behavior and it's cause.

That's how my first test went with the Naze on the 500. Looking forward to what you find out.

It's look like a problem o yaw direction.
Arm, put small power, put yaw stick on left if the copter turn right inverte rear motors or pur in config.h yaw direction to -1
If it's not that Decrease your pid

The Yaw direction seems OK. Left stick turns the nose left, right stick turns it right. I had had the Yaw pid set at 4 originally, I believe the video was with it back at the default of 8.5. Can you suggest a value to try? Right now everything is at default (pic below). This is one of Timecop's Naze32 boards, not a standard multiwii, but as far as I know, the pid system is the same.

Same thing happens to me too, but I've mine hovering quite stable now. I'm using KK 5.5e with mems upgrade and Mike Barton 16j Vtail FW. I've learned the followings:

1. For small multimotor where the motors are closer together, the gyro gain have to reduced relative to the bigger multirotor.
2. On the Vtail, the inherent flex on the tail will translate to a wobble on the roll axis.
3. Really have to balance the motors and props, especially on the tail motors.
4. Retighten the cw props after every flight. ( often overlooked). They tend to work itself loose.

On my 500 vtail, I'm using almost half of my gyro gain setting for a 800mm Tri.
I would suggest setting the I to zero and reduced the P gain and try to hover.
Adjust the P until it flly the way you like it than adjust your I. That's what I did.

I tried a P of 3 with an I of 0 (as suggested by Edd) and that was completely uncontrollable. It took off forward & up and I barely managed to stop it before it crashed into a fence. I took a trip out to a semi-local hobby shop this evening that specializes in hellis and multirotors and tested it again with a P of 3 and an I of 20. It was marginally more controllable, but still isn't getting off the ground until 70% throttle or so and it's still shaking around from about 50% until takeoff. The owner (a MUCH more experienced pilot than I) also tried it and declared it incredibly twitchy. We also tried it with the accelerometer on and there was no difference. At this point I'm considering three possible issues, in descending order of probability:
  • The Naze simply doesn't handle VTails correctly or at least not ones this small.
  • My Naze board is defective (I bought it used and had not flown it before this)
  • There's something wrong with the Throttle on my radio.

I've got three things I'm planning on trying:
  1. Y4 mode
  2. 3 Blade props (on order from GotHeliRC, hopefully they arrive by the weekend)
  3. A CopterControl board the above LHS owner loaned me, assuming I can figure out V-Tail mixing for it.

Further misadventures as they occur....

with Y4 and V tail setup..

maybe if I ever get some time.. I will try the other mixing option with props reversed from the first .. post..

Few pages back there was lots of work done buy Blendi and few others..

even DJI worked ..

1260kv , 8inch prop, 3S 10 and 12 amp esc's..

Just a note, I'm using iPower 2000kv, 10 gram motors (seem to be the same as the turnigy or HK ones, but rated for 3s) and Gemfan 5030 x 2 blade props and I can't even get it off the ground, despite iCalc's predictions of hover at 53% throttle. I still don't know if it's a FC issue (using a Naze32 that doesn't seem to like vtails), but just something to keep in mind. I've got 5030 x 3 blade props on the way at the suggestion of my LHS owner and a loaned CC board to try yet, but it's pouring rain here and I have no safe indoor testing area so I'm on hold until tomorrow.
