Avonds Rafale

I have a Phillip Avonds rafale, and I need some suggestions for a fan set-up that will produce the thrust AND speed to suit this plane. Was thinking Ramtec, but now I am wondering about the new 110 stumax? Anyone out there with experience with this aircraft?

I'm sure the new 120 would work great. I've always wanted to do one of these as a twin. Two of the 80 mm on 8S would be very sweet!

It should be about 8kg all-up. bare air frame is 3.5kg, retracts 850g, batt about 1.8kg, servos x6 300g, motor and fan about 900g and then all other accessories. Should be close to 8kg.

I flymine with XPS/dynamax 14s6600 XPS 45c, it's very heavy ca: 9,3kg
I've made alot of repairs on mine after a crasch, so it's heavier because of that.
It flies great but it's a bit hot on landing.

Looks very good! Now I have to finish mine! You don't have plans for it? I need to replace the 3 formers in the engine bay on mine. Would make it easy if I can get the shape printed and then cut the wood.

Thanks for posting!

I have a friend who has a fly-eagle rafale witch is slightly smaller and weighs 8.8kg. Flies good on 12s. I contacted Phillip Avons, he said 9kg will be fine.

Here are some pictures of the geardoors, let me know if you need more.
I'm in the process of renovating the doors and paint so they don't look so nice right now. Hopefully in a month it will look much better.

I have a friend in my club flying the model on 12S with a Turbofan 4000, nice flyer, good take-off performance of grass but the sound is kuk.
I would recommend Tam's TJ120 on 12S. I am really impressed with this fan, I have one in a Skymaster ViperJet with around 40 fights. Great performance and even better sound.
Buy the plug and play version, that way you know everything works and is backed by Tam.

With this combination you will be under 8kg.

Thanks for the advice. I have a ramtec in it for now, if it flies good, I will upgrade it to something like the tam fan. I will maiden her this weekend with a ready to fly weight of 7.5kg. I am also trying the e-flight 60-120 electric retracts on her, we will see how they hold. can you post the data of the tam fan in the viper? mah, amps and flight time?

Tam 120 draws around 130A on a 12S 6500mAh pack. With throttle management I'm getting 6:30 flights and I am using the battery telemetry from iisi-rc which is very good. Lets you know when your packs are nearly empty. You can set an alarm for remaining capacity, like 25%

What motor do you have with your Ramtec?

Its the scorpion 4035 630kv, 101amps, 4500 watts. I am battling to get it to run very smooth, tried all the usual methods of balancing, still not happy. It would seem that the shaft adapter is the culprit.
