Two observations:
1) his "spotter" was useless (if he really was a spotter)
2) why is this not posted in the "crash discussion forum"? It has zero to do with EDF

it sounded to me like he was warned before he took off not to fly with those other guys in the air.
in any case there are lessons to be learned from that video......Sherlock
beautiful Jet...he is very lucky to have that back in one peice

I can't stand that when people fly against the pattern. Someone was going the wrong way, thats for sure. the turbine took off right to left, then flew down the runway left to right, so it was his fault from what I saw.

the turbine jet does not fly more than 6-8mins

THE guy should of waited til he landed. They were the only two planes at the field left. ONe cost about 20k the other one $600bucks. THE jet took off first. THE guy should of used common sense and just wait 10mins and than go up.

The arrogant behaviour of the turbine guy that felt he did not have to fly the pattern is one factor.
The lack of a (worthwhile) spotter is the other.

Your turbine mentor/buddy ought to have gotten his check book out on the spot and written a check to the guy he speared.......

Now; that said, the COURTEOUS thing to do would have been for the victim to wait 'till the turbine had landed.
Don't suppose that guy had a suitable spotter either?

The guy flying the marige needs to learn how to fly in a clockwise pattern before he flies a jet.

He should not even have a turbine waiver.

I saw a guy at FLjets this year with a yellow F15. Same thing could not fly in a freaking circle in both directions. He almost caused sevral mid airs. I just made sure I flew low.

Just because his plane cost more does not give him the right to hog up the airspace.

If you look at the video the guy was not flying pattern

HE was doing loop or something, tricks, thats what sabation said. I agree that having a more expensive plane does not give him right to hog up airspace, but ideally think about it, dont you think its better to wait 10mins than go up if you are the only two at the field? The jet took off first and sabtion told the dude to wait, i was not there, not sure 100% details, but interesting anyway

From the 20 plus years of flying in various airfields, I have learned that poop happens. Even those that fly a "pattern" are going to get speared by high speed aircraft hitting a slower one.

The "pattern" is in an altitude that is the most crowded airspace I have noticed.

I have been involved in a few myself. Big ticket and small. It just happens.

I have reduced the probability of mid airs over the last few years by flying way lower than the average model pilot.

Total luck and bad luck at the same time.

Thats how we do it at our field when there is a few of us. One at a time unless we are in a pattern. Especially if we have a big plane flying or someone is doing some 3D flying.

I liked watching the ace in hole video from last year with all the edf's in the air and everybody still able to keep their distance from each other for the most part..The problem is that most flying fields out there(No-club)Municipal parks like here in wilmington the air is full of foamies on any saturday morning..There is no ryme or reason to where they have been or where they are going..Throw in a handful of firsttime pilots trying to get their T28 airbourne running with the wind...Not to mention there are 10 guys all the way at the opposite end flying out towrds the other group...Luckily 90% of the planes are inexpensive parkzone foamies..But it can be downright crazy watching it all...Also lucky the place is monstrous...
whats crazy is there are at least 5 places to go and fly all by yourself..I've never seen a single person fly at the field I go to right down the road where they have 3 schools and a huge municipal park that houses10 soccer/lacrosse fields and throw in another 7 or 8 baseball fields....Huge place and always lots of clear airspace with no people around...
