How do you travel with your DLG, Blaster 2-3, Fireworks etc

I am curious, how do you guys travel with your planes on flights etc?

I can see some things that might work for transportation, provided it is a two part wing, rifle box, drawings tube etc.

But like I said I am curious, what do you use for travel since I know a lot of you travel to contests and I cant imagine everyone is driving?!
I am looking forward to my Blaster 2 with a two part wing and trying to figure out a good travel solution for it.

For Radios I have seen quite a few travel cases for them but very few for the DLGs.

I'm having good luck with a SportTube, sized for two snow boards. With care, it will take up to four wings and fuselages. None of my DLGs has a 2-part wing. I haven't shipped it yet, but I hear others have. In the meantime, I have become very confident traveling, and would even strap it to a roof rack.

Yours, Greg

Sport-tube Series 3 with a cardboard box inside will hold 4 DLGs. I have used Fedex when I fly to out of state contests. No damage or sign of rough handling yet.

I'm using a Sportube 3 as well with a cardboard box inside. I managed to fit 5 planes into mine yesterday (my planes have 5.5degrees dihedral).

The photo shows my current DLG box that I used to fly to the WC and the Bruce. This link - is my original DLG box that I have flown with many times. The old is 9"x9"x62" internal and was for 3 DLG's. The new one, with better packing is for 4 and is about 8"x10"x62".

It's basically a plywood clamshell giving very good access to the inside and so far has proved up to the job

Even with a two part wing, the fuse is somewhere in the high 30's to 40's inches long. I would build a light plywood attache for a single plane but it would still be about 45" long and at least 8 inched tall.

If you want a soft sided case, who is it, the bag lady, that makes those nylon padded carrying bags......

I jus tlooked at some gn cases and the ones between 45-50" seem to be a good fit. Anyone with experience of gun cases?
Amazon seem to have a few "Plano" case that to look like they could work.
Have to carve out some of the padding inside but still.

Curious if anyone has any experience.

When I was looking for a cartop carrier, one of those Yakima things, I brought my Mantis plane with me to the store to test fit it.

I would suggest you hit your local sporting goods store with your plane or at least the fuse and do some trial fits.

Sometimes I just carry it behind my seat....

Other times it just rides on the dash board Of the wife's SUV

I do really like Mikes carry box too & would love to build one sometime.
