Whoops!

My first attempt at a flip. (Warthox, don't look)

Whoops.

From about 50-60' up, I started my roll, got half way around, then shot straight for the ground upside down. It happened so quick, I'm not 100% sure what happened.

I think the electronics are fine. The battery was damaged and is draining to its death now. I think I'll just remount the motors directly to the arms.

Oohhh ... you should have added a warning "Xtremely Graphic Content!".

What a sad looking pile of something formerly known as a quad. Must have hurt watching the impact...

Did the motors survive? Looks like at least one of them got hit badly.

Yeah, just did an autopsy. The right rear motor is toast. The bell housing is bent and the magnet shattered inside.

All the motor mounts bent or broke. That material isn't very strong, but the quad sure did go in hard. Was an impressive thump. I'm actually lucky, it hit about 5' from the edge of the paved runway at the club.

I'll bury the battery and motor in a shoebox next to the dog and parakeet in the backyard.

Maybe the broken mounts prevented worse impact on the motors?
In this case they did their job - motors are more expensive...

Having flexible mounts has helped my group with our quad. Every time I take it out to fly, it crashes into something, and I mean every time. The motors are held down by zip ties and double sided automotive body panel tape. The tape also absorbs vibrations pretty well.

I think my first response would have been a chuckle..... Seeing that hard of an impact.... Then I think I would have been sad

That looks like a freeflight board, its '3d' mode is a joke, you should NOT attempt to do any acro with it unless you reload it with mwc firmware.

I had your latest MWC port in it.

next time,

1. start with more attitude

2. raise your RC rate

that should help get you all the way around

Ok, so I had acc on. I had the impression that having a roll/pitch rate would mean PID would be attenuated with full stick through. Does that only apply to the gyro PID, and not the level PID? Basically, once Ingot inverted, it was stuck.
