Anyone Know What Kind of Setup Would Give This Type of Performance?

Hi All,

Here's a video I was eyeing on YouTube with some impressive flying of an Ariane P5. I'm curious what type of setup would give this type of performance for this, or a very similar, plane:

Ariane P5 (3 min 32 sec)

Thanks,
AEM

I really like my 1110/1Y for low cell count. I'm only running 3S 4.75x4.75 now and is along the lines of the video. I have yet to go to 4S 4.1x4.1.

Thats some nice flying! It actually doesnt look that fast, very impressive though. Maybe 35k rpm with a graupner 4.7x4.7?

The best setups are the low to mid power ones where the weight is kept down, heating and short flight times are no problem. ...where I still think a low power setup provides 125mph and a mid power about 170mph.

Thanks for the input, guys. A setup like the one in the video is what has been interesting me, mainly because it allows the plane to be so agile and have good acceleration.

Are there any specific mid- to low-range power trains that come to mind to achieve this? This question is for anyone.

If the RPMs are kept below 35k or so, I'm thinking that I could get decent performance from a GM prop (4.7x4.7 or 5x5)? Basically, having a setup like the one in the video, only with a folding prop, looks like it would be loads of fun.

Thanks

You could go for budget speed like this one. The vid is 3S, but 4S will drop right in and make it even more wacked

How about these setups to attain like what's in the video?

Mega 16/25/1 (4900 kv) + GM 4.75x4.75 folder + 3s

Mega 16/25/1E (4650 kv) + GM 4.75x4.75 folder + 3s

Neu 1110 Y1 (4550 kv) + GM 4.75x4.75 folder + 3s

All of the above motors weigh within +/- 5 grams of each other.

For these setups, would the RPM stay low enough (<35k or so) to get good performance from the GM folder?

What size ESC would be needed (what' the smallest/lightest I could likely get away with?)?

Thanks,
AEM

I like the 16/25/1E idea, light, really low resistance for the kV, 3S is not a bad idea for keeping it light as well.

I dont have any numbers for that motor sorry, but, I figure you'll be around ~80A (guestimated from previous experience..) And you should be in the zone of 35k rpm.

Id go with an ICE100 Lite, plenty of headroom, and theyre the same size as most 60A esc's

All info at the 2 second mark of the video.

Here's the thread https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show....php?t=1592987

It's a whole family of little speedsters's. This being the latest. The 2nd prototype is supposed to have a narrower boom area.
