My first hull was one of Don's boom boats using a Marx Schottel unit - that goes back a few years! Would have liked to have got one of his smaller boom boats. His detailed fittings do get around - could use more hatches, deck details.
That looks good Charlie.

Mike, Thanks!

I now need to finish the little things on mine, and, try to get Troy's twin screw, ready for Riverside. Pat, I know that feeling. Charlie

Latest Progress

I finally got trays made to hold the batteries. At 4.4 oz. each, in a boat that only weights 3.75 lbs., if they shifted much, I would be in trouble. They have been held in place by double sided tape till now. I want to be able to swap them out at regattas. The trays sides are 1/2'' high, and should keep the batteries in place. I also did a temporary mount for the on/off switch. I would like to do a cleaner wiring harness, with plugs on the motor and ESC, when I have some more time. Also got the horn painted and mounted. Looks good Charlie.

Hey, I know you are 'well off' but seriously, gold bars for ballast?

I have seen more than a few people make a piece (like your stack in the last view) the on/off switch. The smartest way to do it a simple slide attached to switch, up is off (that way you don't accidentally turn it off launching it).

Brass Ballast

I like using brass flat bar for ballast. In a semi-flat bottomed boat, it works good, is clean, and keeps the weight low. It weighs 77% the weight of lead, and is a lot cleaner to work with. Charlie

Another option for the on off switch is in a unused bit.

Thanks guys for the ideas. All my bitts are reinforced for towing in tug competition. I have seen guys hide a switch control rod under various deck details. My concern with that is that my deck can run wet, and, I will run at a contest in the rain. So all my boats are pretty sealed up, the exhaust stack being the only vent in the hull, once the house is set on. Charlie

Had a though about an idea I did see once (though it was on a truck) the on-off switch was rigged to the dummy steering wheel, turn it to the right for on, back left for off.....just an idea

woodybob is doing great! How are the rest of you doing on your builds?? I have had to take several weeks off from the boats, but I hope to be back on both soon. Charlie

Adding Details

Just finished prepping, and adding, more details to the stern deck. I am enjoying having the bulwarks, I can add details, and not catch my tow line in them. Charlie

Progress on Troy's Twin Screw Boat

Here are some photo's of where I am on Troy's twin screw boat. From the deck up, it will be typical kit, except for the 2 exhaust stacks. Below and inside the hull, is where things will be totally different.
