Hobbyking ZYX 3-Axis Flybarless System Gyro

This gyro , for the price seems like a worthwhile investment for anyone looking to make a Heli more stable , or Noob friendly ...

So could you use the 3 axis gyro on a regular heli to make it more stable ?

For around $50 , it looks like a very interesting addition :

Three axis gyros don't make CP helis more stable. They simply replace a mechanical flybar with an electronic one.

There are multi axis gyros with self leveling features on them such as the Skookum 720, but these are typically much more expensive and have additional 6 axis gyro and accelerometer functions. Don't confuse these features as something a standard 3 axis FBL gyro will do.

You typically cannot use a 3 axis gyro with a flybar heli either. One will fight the other for control as the FBL unit is supposed to replace the flybar. The Flymentor is a device that can be added to a standard flybar heli that helps stabilize the heli for training.

If you set all of the gain and controls down (low) then the heli is said to be quite 'stable'. However, 'stable' does not mean 'controllable' due to the fact that the PID loop controls now are less responsive (ie: lagging) so if you require fast movement, you won't get it.

And like Xrayted mentioned, the Flybar mechanism will fight with the eletronics control (virtual Fbar) so will make the heli more uncontrollable. What you need is an electronics stabiliser such as Flymentor 3D stabilisation system
