Bootloader dumper:

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/59258955/bldump.zip

If you have a 10mW Devo8 (and would like a 100mW Devo8) then please try the following:

-BACKUP your model settings, this tool overwrites slots 1-4 (You can use the ST DFU tool to do this)
-Download & unpack the bldump.zip file
-Update your TX with the dumper
-Turn on the Tx, it will _briefly_ display "DUMPING" then "DONE"
-Go back to DFU update mode & use the ST DFU tool to read Target ID: 01 SPI Flash: Config
-Upload the file & send me a link (please)

Yep, that will do nicely 1 byte diff at 0x1007, better fix my BL id code...

Thanks for doing that, I will brew up a patched DFU for you shortly (out of town Saturday-Tuesday)

We're happy to announce a new project to develop an open-source firmware for Walkera Devention transmitters (and maybe others some day)

The project's name is 'Whippet' (thanks pmackenzie)..if you don't understand why, try googling 'DEVO'

The source repository can be found here:
https://bitbucket.org/PhracturedBlue/whippet

We're using Mercurial for source distribution (personal preference)
The current code has what has already been posted plus a few additional fixes.
I've also included an 'emulator' target. The purpose of the emulator is to allow easy GUI development. It will build natively on a PC (no cross compiler) and provides a 320x240 screen that behaves like the DEVO8 screen. keys 0-9 behave like buttons, q/a are throttle up/down, w/s are rudder up/down, e/d are elevator up/down, r/f are aileron up/down. Use 'x' to guit the emulator.

The gui is built with fltk which should be easy enough to run on all platforms. i do my development on Linux, so i can't give instructions for building on Windows, though it should be easy enough to do.

Things are still pretty crude, but use:
'make' to build a devo-8 DFU
and
'make -f Makefile.emu' to build the emulator

Since mercurial is a DVCS I won't be providing commit access immediately to anyone else. If someone wants to work on the code, you can just send me pull-requests, and I'll merge as appropriate. Once you've proven to be a trusted contributor, we'll open up commit access to the primary repository.

Hacked up DFUs sent to thwaitm, if he reports success I will share them with any one who wants "mo' power" (and who doesn't?)

Success!!!

And I can hear a slight hum which is stronger at 15 and then again at 20dB so I guess it really is increasing the power... and maybe shortening the life of my D8...

Battery life maybe

Anyway, that's good news. Binaries here (8 & 8S):

I know it's a bit early for it but I want to document a feature I plan to implement... switchable trims , not something I ever thought about until I got my AP, as once in any AP function any trim settings tend to get reversed (my AP requires trims be physically proper and neutral with no radio trim), so with switchable trim I could assign it to my AP switches so that I have a different trim setting for non-AP and with AP.

There's been good progress. We have firmware that can:
* communicate with the radio
* read all 4 sticks
* read all buttons
* draw on the LCD with a set of primitive graphics functions (circle, rectangle, line, text, etc)
* read the battery voltage
* communicate with the USART
* read/write to the SPI flash
* read from the touch screen

The firmware supports building on PC with a virtual LCD to enable GUI development.

The following tasks are underway:
* providing a software stack that can communicate with an Rx (it is likely this will be done with a hacked-in 'DSM module' initially so we don't need to understand the protocol to get things working
* setting up a filesystem such that you can treat your Transmiter like a USB drive to upload model and theme info
* understand the DEVO-8 model info

Development has moved to a new forum, and the project has a new name. I'll let FDR announce it when he's ready.

I've included the current test firmware if someone wants to see what it can do.

We're probably at the point where we could use help with the GUI development if there are any interested programmers out there, but be aware that we are still a ways away from being able to control any model, much less a Walkera model.

I don't mind working on GUI stuff if you can send PM link to where I can take a look at whats going on.

I would like to change the background colour of some input fields with my DEVO 6.
With LIBRARY version 0.2 it was possible with the Walkera Lib Tool V0.2A.
Unfortunately Walkera removed the appropriate bitmaps with the current LIBRARY (version 0.3).

Can someone help me?
Does someone have an hint for me?

It doesn't work for devo 6 v0.3 because Walkera messed up the resource table, so the tool doesn't see all the bitmaps. A future version will, perhaps...
