MIG 1.44 Flatpack Profile

I love Russian jets. The maneuverability is amazing on the Mig 29 and SU37, and maneuvers like cobras, stalls, high alpha, etc seem effortless. I have been flying the J20 nano from Bobduhbilda55 and most recently what I call the RCPowers J20 2.0 which is my modified version of the J20 Easybuild.
Those two J20s feel Russian. They share similar flight characteristics of an SU37- stability, long loops, great high alpha, great slow flying ability, etc. But, the J20 was born of the MIG 1.44 "Flatpack" concept plane of the Soviet era which was lost when the Soviet Union fell. Only a couple fights were made with the plane, but the plans made their way to China years later and became the J20. The two planes look very similar: Delta Canard layout, twin stabilizers far back on the fuselage, Elevons, Thrust vectoring, Large angled canards. But the J20 seems to have been stretched to accommodate greater payload for a multi role purpose whereas the MIG 1.44 serves a light fighter role. I wanted to build the MIG 1.44 because it reminds me of a J20 leaned down and on steroids!
Since the Mig looks much like the Eurofighter Typhoon, which I think is one of the most precise planes I've flown, I hope the MIG 1.44 will perform at least as well as a Eurofighter with thrust vectoring! Can't wait to find out!
Here is my build. I used the same dimensions as the Excellent Feng Shui J20 nano from Bobdabuildah55. Although the Flatpack is slightly more narrow and shorter:

Will post plans shortly- tweaking now- and build pics. Please let me know if anyone else is interested in this build. Recommended Power System:

1600 mah 3s Battery
Elevons and Elevator or Elevons and Thrust Vectoring Vanes
Active Canards Optional
Wingspan: 27.5 in.
Length: 34.5 in.
Weight: 15-20 oz. Depending on Set Up

F1 Mig 1.44 Maiden Flight Video

Wow! What a nice plane! The design of the mig 1.4 is really a combination of a Mig 29's maneuverability with the precision of a Eurofighter Typhoon. WHat a blast to fly and really gives you extreme confidence! The easiest maiden flight yet!

In order to stabilize the wing rock I experienced in the last video I did a kf2 test. The 3mm kf 2 really does wonders with the high alpha-ability and some cg tweaking really made for spectacular stability. Here is the video:

Thanks! It definitely is the best all around plane I've flown.

I remember seeing your thread! Very impressive! Your plane is a work of art! Having done the Shumate SU37 I realize how much work you put into your model especially with your nose assembly process. This model is disposable so that I take more chances than I would with your plane. But the design characteristics seem to still hold. I do a lot of low level flying with high alpha as my preference, but the high speed maneuverability is also excellent. Thank you for your kind comments- And your excellent videos!

After zeroing in on an excellent set up both for high and slow speed I decided to rebuild in depron. The dollar Tree foam was very light but brittle. Will be airborne again by the weekend.

Just remaidened the mig 1.44 after rebuilding it in depron rather than dollar tree foam. A little heavier but much stronger. Still plenty of thrust from the mjv3.

This mig 1.44 is a flexible plane. I have moved cg back 2 inches from plan. Normally this would make the plane difficult to fly but using the downward angle of the canards to compensate for this I can have the plane set up for great maneuverability and high alpha while maintaining the mid to high speed performance.
