Castle Thunderbird-9 counts the wrong number of cells

When I plug a 2 cell lipo into my brand new Thunderbird-9 it counts out 3 beeps instead of 2 (as it should for a 2 cell battery).

The instructions say that the Thunderbird-9 should be in "Auto lipo detect" mode, but that is definitely not the case as it is counting 3 cells, and the prop hardly spins a full throttle.

Any suggestions? Is it a defective controller?
Can I reset it with my transmitter, without using "Castle Link", which I don't have?

thanks

John

Unfortunately, I believe it is only a 3s ESC.

A T-9 should work just fine on 2S OR 3S. I've only tried programming a T-18, and failed both by stick and with the Castle Link. Is it possible you are overcharging your batteries, fooling the ESC to think you've got a very discharged 3S? Have you tried setting the throttle limits?

I charged the 2C lipos at 7.4V so I don't think I overcharged them.

After looking at the troubleshooting section on the Castle web site it looks like there may be an issue with the controller...

Carlsoti,

Are you saying that the Thunderbird ESCs that say 3S on them will work with 2s? Just wondering, because I have a TB 54 and it just says 3s and nothing in the specs in regards to 2s?

I had this question myself awhile back and CCs site didn't answer it.

Thanks

Of course a TB9 will run with 2s....the MAXIMUM voltage is 3s... the TB9 is auto detect so it should set itself correctly for 2s if that is what you plug in.

I think you have an issue with throttle range.

I had the same problem a few years ago with a T-18 - turned out to be a defective controller - Castle replaced it with no hassles - give them a call.

Good luck
