Anyone flying Turnigy 9X for full house sailplanes?

I don't see much posted in the sailplane section on this radio, so I thought I would ask. The price is certainly compelling, but is the radio reliable? Does it have the mixes?

Could it replace my Futaba 9C super?

Turnigy 9X - $60
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...idProduct=8992

I am not interested in recommendations about other radios. I want to hear about this one from sailplane pilots who fly this or the essentially similar versions under other labels.

The goals are to fly full house gliders, both winch and ALES electric launched, with a fairly rich set of sailplane mixes. It doesnt have to match up with a $2000 radio, but it has to have some good sailplane mixing. I fly a Futaba 9C super so that is my personal reference point.

Today I recommend the Airtroncis S-10G, Aurora 9, the JR 9503 and the Futaba 8FG to new soaring pilots looking for a sport and competition radio. These run in the $350 to $600 range. How close can the $60 Turnigy 9X get to these? For around $60 including radio, module and receiver, the price spread is pretty wide. Will it get the job done?

If you do have experience with the Turnigy 9X, what 2.4 module are you using? I understand the Fly Sky and FrSky modules fit. There is a Turnigy module included. Are there others? Which to choose?

Thanks for any input you can provide based on your personal experience with this radio.

Suggest you download the manual and start reading...
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...6X11510X47.pdf and http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...6X11510X33.pdf

Quick scan of the manual shows it has basic glider mixes such as butterfly.

I am not interested in what the manual says, I am interested in what experienced pilots say. But thanks for posting the link to the manual.

BTW, that manual link only goes to page 26. The glider section starts on page 42.

Here is part 2 of the manual.

The manual translation leaves much to be desired.

I bought one with 3 receivers. None of the receivers would bind. I threw the whole thing in the garbage!

Ouch! How long ago was that? I know they had serious problems when they first came out.

I have been looking at that radio my self ,and noticed that it is now out of stock at hobby king and hobby partz, it's the same radio, different name.It makes me wonder if the factory scraped it too.

More likely they can't keep up with demand. Or it is undergoing some updates. The Parkflyer pilots seem to like it, but they don't have the range and mixing that we glider guiders require.

Heck, for $60, I may just buy one to try it out, but I would rather get some feedback on it first.

One of the guys in the club here gave a presentation last month about reflashing it with different firmware, says the new firmware give it all the high-end radio functions and seems impressed.

I have no first-hand experience with it.

I can recommend this group on Yahoo. Here you find all about HK, Fly Sky, Eurgle 9x radios:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Flysky_RC_radio/
They are all the same radios, but different names. Here you can find different set ups and experiences for these radios.

When in doubt, mumble
I'm not a sailplane pilot but this radio with updated er9x can do just about anything. Holds 16 models and a boatload of mixes.

Custom firmwares for the 9x are somewhat limited for the full house gliders because there is only 3 flight modes and 32 mixer lines available.

Hi,
I bought this radio and it seems to be a good solution for the price I paid.
You will have to upgrade the firmware for the sailplane I would suggest this one
Take care.
