Help!

Is my canopy done for? :(

Hey there,

I was working on this edge 540 last night that I bought from HK a while back. After gluing some parts I noticed that I accidentally got a couple drops of CA on the canopy.

Like the RC world's biggest dumb ass I (without thinking) took some CA remover to the spots and now have this fogged mess that seems up-fixable. I've heard of people using some type of Pledge floor polish to fix it, but I'm doubtful on this one.

No replacement parts exist and I'm at a loss. Does anyone know a solution or maybe some way to make a new copy of the canopy. If anyone knows someone that can do that I'd be willing to pay for a close-to-exact copy of the canopy!!!

I've probably screwed this one beyond repair

Any help would be great

Thanks guys!

Why not just spray paint the inside of it a nice gray color?

Yeah, that's probably my best option

Spray-paint on the inside will still show the CA. Have you tried using straight Nitro? It should remove the CA without melting the plastic. I have also read that WD-40 works at removing "fog". Otherwise sand it out with 600-grit to 1000-grit then use the floor wax as a finish.

I have not, where can I get straight nitro? Like nirto fuel?

When I mistakenly used the CA remover I believe it thinned out the CA that was on the canopy. This made the the situation worse and hopefully there's something that can help.

Yes - nitro fuel. Do a tiny test area first. Maybe someone at your flying field or the LHS will let you dab some onto a cloth. If all else fails, you'll have to sand it out (I edited my comment above - so re-read it).

I know car parts stores (Autozone) sells plastic restorer for headlight/taillight lenses... it buffs out UV-hazed plastic so it's clear again. And motorcycle shops sell the same stuff for plastic windscreens and helmet visors.

Aren't a lot of CA removers made with a high-proportion of nitromethane?

Future does remarkable things with clearing scratches in styrene. If you can buff out or remove the glue residue, it might work.

I know 3-in-1 oil will work to remove CA fogging from canopies. Not sure if it would have any effect when straight liquid CA got on the plastic, though.

Damp, not soaked, Cotton balls and toothpaste. Start polishing. Make sure you have something supporting the inside of the canopy, like your finger.

I may try nitro, then the toothpaste, then floor polish. If there's no progress by that time then I'll have to settle for painting it
