B-2 Bomber

Alright My First Build thread. Go easy on me.

I'm going to attempt to build a B-2 Bomber. I'm going to build it very similar to the way we have been building the Paintball Wing. https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show....php?t=1551613

I'm going to not try to big deal it and Keep it pretty simple. But I do want dual motors with thrust differential for yaw, since the B-2 has no rudder(s) and to try to keep from losing to much altitude when I'm in a bank. Plus I just think it would be cool.

So, more info and pictures coming later. I could probably get the pdf plans posted later if anyone is interested, and I gotta get to the Perry RC swap meet this weekend and try and get some electronics for it.

The "plans" were created by Pecanpatch and basically just took a aerial photo of the plane and dumped it in auto-cad, traced it, and printed it. So I'm figuring it out as I go along.

I'm going to attempt a poll. Why wouldn't I?

Originally I planned on putting the elevons on the outer most part of the wing. But now that I have it cut out. The outer most part of the wing is pretty thin and if I cut elevons out of them they would be really skinny. So, now I'm thinking I'll put them on the first angle in from the outer most part of the wing, since there is so much more room there for them. Also they would get prop wash on them there. So make sure and vote.

I considered doing those for yaw control, but with the dual motors with thrust differential I feel like i'll have efficient yaw control. Plus I'm trying to not make it a super detailed build. Like the paintball wing I want it to be simple. I may regret it and start over one day, but I want to have this one ready for Seff in time.

Also I've never felt that airbrakes, although they are cool, were ever worth the trouble. But if and when I build a second one. It will have duckerons, airbreaks, dual motors, etc.

I also want the prop slits inside of the wing, I don't want the prop hanging off the back. But good references though.

I will be following this build very closely, looks like a fun project, indeed one that will be different at the field.

I've got a small twin motor plane that uses motor speed diffetrential for directional control. Very small motors, I wonder if I can use any of it for this project, probably not.
I'm anxious to see what you come up with as far as electronics.

Here's a print I did up that shows the basic placing of parts for Josh's B-2

I drew it up as I was building mine. Let me know if you see any errors or have any additions.

C.F. LEADING EDGE PLACEMENT+ As shown on print is where I placed mine, although moving the c.f. rods rearward, closer to the main spar will allow lifting the l.e. per Josh's build.
The c.f. rods placed as shown on the print pretty much dictate a flat bottom wing shape, without much allowance to pull up the l.e. towards a more semi-symmetrical shape.
Moving the l.e. more towards a semi-symmetrical shape also adds back top sheet length that is lost due to the main spar height.
On mine the top sheet comes out about 3/8 to a 1/2 inch shorter when meeting with the bottom sheet at the t.e. center. This is not a big issue, but one you can plan for in advance.

I'm not sure of the wingspan of these B2's you guys posted up....
But this one jmurdock is building is the max size you can get out of a piece of 24 x 48 foam. (for one side of plane)

We are going to set him up with a v-tail mixer for the differential thrust sort of like in the "Twins" build thread.
