Note that the -ve lead from the receiver also goes to the -ve lead of the PIC.. forgot to label that.

Also you may want to remove the battery compartment cover as it gets in the way of the wire. You'll also need to purchase a SD card for this camera as it loses it's pictures on power off. The internal memory can only store ~8 pictures anyway.

The original plans are from http://www.rc-cam.com/camman.htm . Kudoz for a simple circuit we all can use

Excellent work through

Note though the new 2.1meg Pencam has different firmware/board layout and although RC-Cams switch works it requires different pick up points on the board for power and wake up signals.

Ok I just bought one of these cameras and this mod looks easier to do than hacking a servo, except about the part of buying a chip and having to program it, that part threw me for a loop. Is someone selling these chips already programmed. If not where did you get yours, digi-key lists many versions of this chip on their site that rc-cam recommends. Thanks.

If anyone could program a few chips and add the neccesary components (cap/resistor) I for sure would like to buy some DIY kits. 6 to be exact

I bought the chips (PIC 12C509A) and programmed them myself.. The Digikey code is PIC12C509A-04/P-ND, although I bought mine from Farnell/Newark.

I got my "kit" from RC-CAM only a few weeks ago. Around $10 if I recall ?

Note it requires fine soldering skills to to pick up the power for the PIC and wake up signal.

I got an electronics guy at work to do it for me. No way I could have done it with my 30W soldering iron!

I'll check with RC-CAM but my memory told me he had stopped offering these PIC kits.
But my memory has fooled me before

I can still offer the CamMan-Aiptek and CamMan-Mini3 PIC kits to eZoners. I certainly do not mind helping those in need. The low cost pricing details are in those old CamMan eZone threads (or just PM me).

Please keep in mind that others are not allowed to resell the RC-CAM firmware in any form. The simple freeware-for-hobby-use details are in the readme PDF that is included with the software hex file. Everyone has been very respectful of this policy, which I appreciate.

One point.. the PIC/EPROM programmer I used reported an "error" while loading the hex files, so I just loaded the hex files in IC-PROG and saved them back as hex files again..

RC-CAM, did you have on your site a page that showed how to solder in your switch? I just got my PenCam and would like to open 'er up and take a look. I can solder pretty well, but I have never done any SMT, so I want to "window shop" before I buy.
