How bad is it torn up? If the damage was caused by the plane crashing due to a stuck servo or warped control rod, then HH should help you out.

My first two flights [of the Stratos] were last Saturday... God willing and the creek don't rise, will rise again in the am... but the prediction is for rain :-(

I still need TONS of practice, hahaha

Hi all,

I just search a plane for my son to learn flying very easy (and Dad has fun too)
I'm a great fan from HH, fly Stryker and several UMX models with DX8.

Some questions to the Stratos:

- is it possible to change Rudder to the left (throttle) stick ? I want to have Throttle and Rudder on the same (left)stick and Elevator (right).
I fly Mode 4 and think its better to learn flying with "Dad's" Mode and therefore later my son can use Ailerton on his learned left stick.
- do you still use stock props or a better type ?

Thanks

No, the Hobbyzone Firebird Stratos uses proprietary electronics and there is no provision to switch sticks for rudder use. I am not sure if the plane comes in mode 1, but on mode 2, the trottle and rudder are on the right. I know of no accessory propellers for the FB Stratos. The plane is designed to be flown by just about anyone and as such you must fly it pretty mucy as is.

Throttle on left stick, rudder and elevator on the right.

Sorry... just trying to help, chuck.

This plane is really aimed at a self-learner, so as you can fly already it's not best suited to your needs.

He is looking for a model for his son. I would say go for the Hobbyzone Champ if dad is flying UM models.

Picked one up at the LHS today for my son. He has been flying the micro j-3 cub fine and am hopping this will fill a need to learn better control at the field flying with other pilots.

I'm still honing/developing my flying skills - the Stratos is very good for learning on your own.

Congrats on your purchase, I'm certain your son will love it. And if you fly it, I'm betting you'll enjoy it as well. Good luck!

Virtual Instructor...

Curious - has anyone yet 'turned off' VI and flown their Stratos "naked"?

If so - tell us about your experiences with the plane; how she flew, handled, etc.

The Champ is an awesome first plane.

I have been crashing my Super Cub way too often. Every crash it gets heavier (hotglue). I'm pondering whether to get myself the Stratos as an early christmas present, and saving the SC for later.

I crashed ("flew") my Champ for a couple months then decided I'd be better served with the Stratos. Only two short flights so far - but no crashes (yet).

My vote is, go for it, Nighthawk74.

I had planned to get out to the field early this morning... but gotta love Texas; rain and wind, till Tuesday ... Just my luck eh.

I really need to do that. Max out the throws, turn the VI off and see if I can force some inverted flight.

But it's archery season here now and I haven't been flying for several weeks. Might be able to get to it in 2 weeks at the end of the season. That is if I can finish the honey-do list quickly.
