Finally a semi decent day to go out and fly..It's been since late October since I have had the right weather. right time you all know how that goes..Plane was twitchy because I just velco taped 808 cam to the belly and didn't mess with checking COG. Cam is cheapy gotta get a HD in the coming months. I tried to fly my Champ prior to this and the gust were just blowing it around. Hopefully tomorrow temps in the 40's and wind about the same and going to Maiden my AXN...after I have a flight with the Stratos for warm up.. btw.. voltage 8.4 after approximately 11 minutes of flying it was at 7.9 with approx half throttle majority of time.

the bowing effect IMO is because the servo is not set in neutral position,if it was me i would set all trims on handset to center position,at that point the elevator and rudder should be exactly centered,if off ever so slightly they can cause this bowing effect on the rod because the servo is traveling too far,at the end of the rod you will see where the rod joins,here it can be turned in or out to adjust,i would use this point to set things up bang on,then check the travel of the servos on low/high rate mode and check for bowing of the rod,if still persists then the elevator or rudder needs to be made to travel further so the position where the rod is mounted needs to be changed on the clevis. hope that helped,it did do it for me. f/punch |

Getting connections on those micro linear servos is going to be hard with any upgraded wire. My son has been pushing the limits and this weekend miscalculated his pull out too close to the ground. Took a few hours but is back to normal. Push rods are still working fine they do have some bowing.

the pushods flex because:
the hinges on the flying surface (elevator or rudder) are binding/ do not move freely. OR the pushrods themselves are binding (probably near the surface/ far from the servo) perhaps a decal, look closely where the pushod exits the fuselage. |

Thanks to all who responded about Stratos pushrods. I don't think the hinges are the problem. If they were, I would have experienced this problem from the beginning--- in my experience, the push rod bending happens over time and increases with number of hard landings. I agree that friction on the push rod is probably the problem. I haven't figured out the exact "track" of the Stratos push rods through the fuselage (if there is one), but I'm guessing that the push rod gets "off-track" somehow through use and impacts and then starts to bow. So, I'm trying inserting plastic tubing through the length of the fuselage for the push rod to run through. As far as going to a larger gauge wire, I think the suggestion of going to a 2-56 threaded rod is overkill and way too thick to work with the Stratos push rod ends. I'm planning on connecting the push rod ends (z-bend and threaded parts) to 0.032" music wire instead of the Stratos push rod (which is maybe 0.020"). Even that difference in size is significant though, but I think it will work--- just don't know whether I should glue the joint as before or try to solder it. Wish there was a video showing the Stratos push rod replacement process......

black6088 i think you could upset the weight of it if you use plastic tubing on the rods the extra weight will only slow it down,i know it's not much extra weight but it make a big differnce on these. |

some more aerobatics this evening at home with the plane,this thing can reach a serious altitude,madyson my seven year old son loves it,he wants me to fly it all the time and i'm not complaining stay tuned also for the new plane coming soon...all i will say is it will be mental and very fast! not long to wait now,i got an e-mail today saying it was sent :]

Yeah, if the flexing pushrod issue gets worse over time and worse with hard landings, I have to think there's an internal pushrod guide or two that's fallen off/broken or something internal is binding on those pushrods.. a tiny amount of added weight in the tail is better than having flexing pushrods (as long as the plane is still balanced before flight)

jim, think i might have another soloution for that problem,move in the rod on the clevis a hole and see how it goes.
well that's my stratos ready for a flight tomorrow in full elevator and rudder trim,i moved to the highest position for the clevis control horns to travel,now it has great rudder,also i cut away the tape and retaped the elevator so it all moves together,looks like the aerobatics could get even more intresting tomorrow,let's see |

Changes like those should be made only after you have turned off the VI on this plane. The VI will not let the plane fly right if you make changes contrary to those settings stated in the manual.
