What if you replace the engine in your motorcycle with Nicd's/Nimh's?

Hehe, had to use that title.

I've been thinking about this for some time. An electric powered motorcycle - with two wheel drive.

What is the horsepower of a typical sport bike? 50 hp?

two 18kW brushless motors do the trick? (or 38 Hacker XL motors?) Where would I find controllers?

Scroll down to the "Electric Hog".

Now, any more questions?

There's an outfit at www.electricmoto.com that sells a VERY competitive electric dirtbike. It uses a Briggs & Stratton 18hp motor and a handful of fancy gel cells. Run time is 15-20 minutes at race-pace speeds, and it charges in about the same from 120V outlets.
If you believe the hype, and the dyno charts (pretty believable), this thing stomps the 125cc class because it has considerably more torque. I want one..

Dave

P.S. typical sport-bike HP #'s are over 100 for even 600cc bikes. HP figures sell motorcycles, torque wins races.

I want to build one which a unique body style.
Perhaps there is an off the shelf powertrain that can be used.
