Optimized RCExplorer Tricopter Template

An optimized tricopter template based on the design by RCExplorer.se

Hi everyone!

After using the RCExplorer template for their tricopters, several people came to the conclusion that the original RCExplorer template could be a bit better. So I started to design a new template based on the RCExplorer design, and after several hours this design was born. These were the improvements made:
- 120║ between booms
- CG point at axis intersection
- KKboard centered over CG point
- all screws more than 8 mm from edge of plate
- design still foldable- all screws 3mm
- minimal changes to profile, still looks sexy
Five days later, a friend said he tried out the modified design and it worked out nicely, it could even be used as a T-copter instead of the normal Y-configuration. That inspired me to make this modified design more user-friendly, so that more people could enjoy the benefits of the new design.
- Frame can now be used as a T-copter
- Power cables can now be run inside the frame
- Boom pivot further out from CG
NOTICE: The original design belongs to RCExplorer.se . As the new template is completely based on his design, i cannot claim ownership of it. The new design still belongs to RCExplorer.se . I will only shamelessly claim credit for the improvements made to the design, while staring in amazement at the guy who brought multicopters to the masses.

If you decide to sign up over there the answer to the random question is Joshua. The show they're referring to is their Youtube channel.

Yes, the CG will be further back along the rear arm. This tri setup as a T is not your conventional evenly spaced motor to motor design. It will fly but id imagine it would have a very sensitive pitch and slower roll response.

If the CG is not adjusted, the tricopter will be sensitive to tilting forwards, but slow to tilt backwards. The CG in the case of the T should theoretically be 16.6 cm from the conventional Y-type CG. This is accomplished by moving the battery towards the back, strapping it to the arm.

The following site is very useful for getting the balance right on a T-copter...

http://lloydhassell.brinkster.net/rc...alculator.html

Just enter the details of your airframe and it will suggest a suitable CofG point.

Based on the David's RCExplorer tricopter, I built my Tcopter with the motors and CofG in the same place as his v.2.5. Mathematically calculated the front motors will be 866mm (34.1") apart, axel to axel, and the boom to the rear motor axel will be 750mm (29,5"). Allow about 1/2" extra to be able to mount the motors.
