Multiplex DG600


Jay,

A flying buddy let me fly his MPX DG600 at Soar Utah 2010.
I flew it for an hour and loved it. It was that experience that
set me on the search path for a scale plane of my own.

Got the in-fuselage servos mounted and some nose weight epoxied in place.
Hanging it from the basement ceiling, I can get it to balance right on the wing rod
by moving the battery pack. Happy day.

Jay said his Multiplex DG-600 balances 78mm behind the LE.
Mine balances 67mm behind the LE (center of the wing rod).

Any of the Gerasis DG-800 flyers have their balance point marked?
Test fly it at 67mm, or move it back a little?

Looks good Dave.
I don't think 9mm is much to worry about. A forward CG to start with is usually a safe bet & a 9mm difference on this size A/C is nothing tragic.
I'm not a fan of your CG method though. A loop of string X2 + some potential interference from the fuse/wing can IMO create to much friction for a true reading.On a 20 some odd pound model it may not be an issue but these are much lighter.
So far I've been mounting a small screw eye @ the documented CG location on the fuse bottom.Hang the model upside down and I get a good feel for spanwise balance & CG.These are primarily slopers w/o retracts.

Right. Less than half an inch. 13mm is half an inch.

Ya know, it DID seem to rest pretty steady in the two slings.
I'm sure you're right about this. Plane's too big for my regular balance rig.

Gerasis DG-800 is ready to go


My Gerasis 3.6 meter DG-800 is completed and ready to fly.

Bench time to get it to this point, 26 hours.
All up weight = 92 ounces.
If someone has the wing area handy, I can calculate wing loading.

Dave,

right now I'm on a skiing holiday trip and away from home. Though I may be not able to find the documentation, when returning home next weekend I may be able to look for details regarding the CG in a report I wrote years ago for special interest magazine AUFWIND or MODELLFLUG INTERNATIONAL (forgot which it was).

But I can't tell before monday...

I don't recall the wing area but I was shocked when I ran the numbers and the wingloading on My Higgins Alias was lower...
