Help!

FOUND 2 trashed wood boats!

A friend found 2 of this in the trash...

He mailed me this pics, Ive seen the boat live, they are both the same model!
I wondered who in his right mind would trash this..?
We are going to start rebuilding them, and try to to some kind of electric motor and servo install...
I have no knowledge about boats, my main interest are gliders, but these are to good to let die!

Any idea what they are?
Are they old toys?

Most likely old toys, circa 1920/30s, maybe earlier.

There is a very good chance that she originally had a clockwork / wind-up powerplant which probably also controlled her rudder position allowing her to be launched, then returned to shore before her 'power' ran down. It is a shame that the clockwork mechanisms have been lost.

Please do document her fully with photos, measure her and take her sections and then share them with us.

Great find. The string-work steering linage to the rudder is intriguing.

This thread added to WOODIES: Wooden Pleasure Craft Build Logs listing in the Restoration section.

Thanks very much Craig!!!

We are going to take a good look at the thread and try to make justice to the rebuilding...
Cant say the result will be perfect... at least one will be reborn to the 21 century electric reality!

We will certainly try to do a good job, hope to have the necessary skills to achieve a good result?

My main interest are Gliders, my friend has no relation with RC whatsoever....
Lets C what comes out!

See if you can find a copy of Cavileer's "Model Boat Building for Boys" It covers the period methods and technology pretty well.

Here's the WorldCat page for it as well.

If you need any assistance let me know.

Try & restore the boat to it's original state.

Could be quite valuable.

Just remember it was built by someone to serve a purpose or achieve a goal, money aside treat it as you see fit. It’s not history or an antique if it is still accomplishing the above, and if the original maker was available for comment I am sure he or she would be pleased you found their project amusing enough to improve or make into functional art once again. This is how I see it and as an aside I am often incorrect, but I do enjoy things especially when they are model boats.
