I was going to say my gas slick has only made one flight with the cowl on. It only has 7 flights on it though and my tune still isn't perfect.

on the electric 71 and the vyper 65 the cowl is integral to keeping the canopy attached. there are dowels in the front of the canopy that go into holes in the cowl.

The design is way different on the 70 class birds. I though we were talking big birds.

Sorry guys, didn't mean to cause confusion with the canopy/cowl question. I only have a 41 Edge and a 59 Slick and the canopy needs the cowl to stay fastened on both of them, just thought all the others were similar.

I suppose one could tape the canopy down, but that would be a hassle and I wouldn't be confident it would stay attached.

The front edge of the canopy in my 47" SHP tucks underneath the cowl. That helps hold it down.

If you fly without a cowl, the magnets are probably not going to be strong enough to deal with the extra air pressure and your canopy will likely fly off and break the latch in the back.

If you want your motor to run cooler on the SHP, I'd take the spinner off to directly expose the motor to the ram air.

Any servo rated for 6v if you are using the 2s 6.6v LiFe/A123 packs

The LiFe packs from hobbico are A123 batteries assembled/manufactured like a LiPo with patty cells. A123 are round but they are the same chemistry as the LiFe packs.
