longer flight times would make a gas version appealing to me for a 30cc float plane

But, the quieter electric is also a plus.

I can argue both sides

That's why this debate is never ending. There is no clear winner, even in my mind.

I have a 1/4 scale electric cub so maybe bigfoot will be gas for me?

We have a lot of lakes around here, so a float plane would be cool. Not sure how the residents would feel about a 30cc chainsaw buzzing around over their heads. Electric would be nice for keeping the peace. I wonder if it could handle 2x 6s 5000 in parallel?

I spoke with someone at Oktoberfest who said they did not like the 74 edge vs the 71 slick and the reason they had was the tail moment was shorter on the 74" edge.

Depends on what you're looking for in an airframe. Yeah, the 71" tracks better and the snaps are cleaner. The 74" has way more pitch authority and it really excels at 3D. Both of them are exceptional airframes. They just fly differently.

In 7x" planes I'd rather have the lighter weight. In 50cc class the extra weight becomes less noticeable... for me, I'm with 6L6Amp, electric in this size. If I wanted gas 50cc is my minimum size.
Agreed. I think the crossover point for electric vs gas is somewhere between 30cc and 50cc. The 30cc size planes usually come out lighter as electric, while the 50cc planes usually come out lighter as gas. Note that I said "usually", there are certainly exceptions. If I was building a 71 Slick or 74 Edge I would go electric, but 87 SHP (maiden coming on saturday) or 89 Slick would be gas.

I live in the desert but a 30cc bigfoot on floats would be so badass. There would be zero resistance on hitting the "Buy now" button on that. I would even sleep on the couch for a week for it without question.

Although I would need to find a lake to fly it on, or else have wheels hidden in the floats.

If your going to make Big foot a float plane, I'd recommend a gas engine. They seem to fair better after being dunked in the water than an electric motor.
Just speaking from experience.
