X468HD X8 DJI Wookong M
Here are some pics of my current build, an heavy lifter X8 based on the X468HD frame, with the DJI Wookong M.
I'm using X468 boom blocks and motor mounts, and the medium camera mount.
Motors are MT2814-11 (710Kv) and they will swing some 12x4.5 props.
Distance motor to motor is 740mm.
I'm currently waiting on the last 2 motors and the ESC's and will update the thread when I've new pics.
Added some pics with the two missing motors and the cover.
GPS has been moved to an arm.
Still wainting on ESC's, the last missing parts before the maiden flight!
Finally got the stuff I was waiting for, so I posted some new pics at the end.
Too much wind here those days, so the maiden is reported a bit... but I'll post a video when done.
The camera will be operate by a second person and there will be a video downlink, still need to had it.
I want to tweak the beast and have it flying as needed before puting all the stuff on...

Seriously, there is still some work to do.
I just made a quick test in the wind today, it behaves really good, was holding position in GPS mode pretty nice. The copter weighs 4.5Kg, so it's an heavy machine, and that surely helps in the wind.
It's flying fine but I think I'll need to try different props and combinations to reduce vibrations and help stabilizing the flights. I'm actually using 12x4.5 gemfan but I'm thinking to switch to APC 12x3.8 for upper motors and 11x6 for lower motors.
There's a common knowledge that lower props need to be smaller with more pitch to be efficient. I'll try.
I also swapped the gimbal to an AV130 because the previous one was too floppy, but it still needs improvments.
Flight times with 2x 4S 5000Mah is around 8 min in hover.
The coaxial setup seems to handle better in the wind than flat setup.
yes I agree the coxials always do better in wind... but at the cost of efficiency.

as for props those gemfan props are NFG in my opinion, I bought lots of them and they are just no good for heavy applications, I think you would find that putting some 11x6 graupners on there will smooth everything out.

Some changes since the last update
The X468 medium camera mount was too floppy for the NEX-5, so I changed it to an AV130. I did some modifications to the frame to fit the AV130 and it now works as well.
I had some vibrations I did not get rid off, until I changed the propellers. I swapped the 12x4.5 Gemfan for some APC 13x6.5 and what a difference!
No more vibrations, the copter seems to have more power and flight time has slightly increased, I'm actually flying 8 min with spare power, so it's 1 min more than before.
I will post a video on the next days.
