What is a good brand of foam safe spray paint? Tried to find Tamiya brand, but one local hobby shop that carried it closed a couple years ago, any ideas?

Just came across this thread - looks interesting. I laminated my foamboard plane, then sprayed paint directly onto it. It may well peel at spots, but the paint adheres well to the laminate and no problems with solvent melt. Yellow and green for a mottled effect.

Thatís cool looking
Iím trying to paint a GWS DC3 so I need something that wonít attack foam
I built a foamboard flying wing that is laminated and painted the top red to help tell orientation in flight, it stuck well

Thanks Rich. Can you find out what type of foam it is and then search the thread?

Really like the APD, but just wondering is there build guides for the mini? or is it easy enough to just downscale it.

Really want to build one but stick with my current batteries. 3s 2200 4s batteries are expensive for me.

So ive started building the baby APD. Really like the simple construction methods.

im using HK foam which ive read is similar to depron so i used the score method for creating the folds. For the fuselage i used a thick pllectrum, might have to use something a bit thickers as it was a real challange to fold into a square.

Teh fuselage turned out OK although there is a slight twist which looks like its 1 of the sides being slightly taller at 1 side than the other. Should be an easy fix though once mounting the wing and canard probably adding a spacer under 1 to get them to line up.

Ive made the canard, which is 20" turned out pretty well, however somehow i seemed to have made it slightly different, if i was making the wing the elevons would have ended ended up coming from the bottom of the wing rather than from the top is that a problem>? not sure because i follwed the armin wing video.

It did mean finishing the canard trailing edge a little different, i cut of the excess (which would have been the elevons if it was the main wing) about 1/2" from the top edge and then sanded it down at same angle thent aped over.

rattle can spray paint can be used but you have to use very light coats, and it helps to use oil based polyurethane on the foam first. Or just use a paintbrush with hobby/craft acrylic paints. Or my favorite new way is those paints or airbrush paints with an airbrush. No fumes and easy to control, nice even coats, no drips, water clean up.

No answers to my queries...

So here is where im at, ive included some pics of various steps of the Baby APD build. Ive went with the canard all the way forward instead of over the hatch, since i dont have any hooks to hand and didnt really want to go searching for something that would do the job. ive still the run the spars that hold the rubber bands so no wings fixed yet.

The fuselage does have the slightest twst to it, guess i wasnt quite accurate on one side which appeares to be slightly taller than the other sides. it may need a shim on 1 side of the main wing to make sure it lines up with the canard.

Im running a 10x6 prop on it as the motor i had to hand was an 1100kv. This flew a similar weight plane fairly well (flitetest style t28 trojan) I will consider though changing to a 2200kv with 6x4 prop and 4 cell (im running 3 cell at the moment)

One question though, ive only cut enough of the elevons to clear the fuselage, on the EA video its the side of the prop, dont really want to cut 5" of each elevon although maybe it would be OK as ive went with 2" elevons

Finaly finished up, now where is the CG supposed to be? I have a feeling im tail heavy, until i can extend the ESC battery connection cant get battery furher forward (which would be another 3 or 4 inches) currently it looks to be balancing a few inches behind the centre of the fuselage.

You want it to balance at about 1/3rd of the chord distance back from the leading edge of the wing. That assumes you have the wing in right place too. If the wing is too far aft or forward it changes things...
