'Fire Fly'

Been a bit quiet on nights this week so decided to build a new model, based on Tom Wright's 'Crane Fly', it only took about 5 hours to complete the airframe.

The idea was to produce a model that can be utilised as a Night Flier, built from the scrap box the 'Fire Fly' is nearly complete bar for rotors and fit ment of the servos etc
Typical pod and boom type made from balsa and lite ply with just a few curves added. Had a bit of a 'Lazy' moment and have used a HK head
Weight as you see it has ended up under 1lb, rotor span will be in the region of 40-50".

Will let you know how it goes.

Regards

Rich

I'm sure many have been watching this thread develop but here is a link to Tom's 'Crane Fly' build log. I am currently doing him some drawings to help out ,very much in the way Spyro was done.

http://www.modelflying.co.uk/forums/...s.asp?th=63588

A simple design that is easy to fly for a minimal cost, repairs are simple and quick. Him and his mates have 15 of the things all together and they all fly well.

Hi Rich and fellow gyro fans.
My first post on this forum so hi to all.I have spent many years around full size and rc planes of all types .but never autogyros until I came across Rich over on model flying forum .He got me started and already my hanger of 50 + fixed wing models has been expanded to take a dozen or so od auto gyros ,my latest the Crane Fly is designed as a primary trainer that's cheap to build and quick to repair (to basic for most on here perhaps) but Rich brought the link across in case any first timers popped up .

Andy,
Mainly a collector of broken models

Welcome to the forum Tom, don't underestimate your design. It may be simple and cheap but it flies great and I believe it is the way forwards for the newbie.

Just you wait and see

Well I decided to take apart the HK head, gave the PPP plate a bit of a twist and it went white! NOT GOOD!!
So I have made a new FG plate to replace it, made a drawing of it to assist.
If its any help I can upload the PDF? should be good for the C30 if it works.
