FAI F5J, X5J, SOR Sign-up Feb 18th&19th

No Rule changes for 2012. Fly them if you have them.

TO ENTER, please post to this thread your ship and power train information, before the days of the contest. During the day of the contest post your scores.
You may fly any or all of the classes below. In general, all classes use flight time - motor time and up to 30 points for landing.

The goal has been to minimize the rules to stress a Unlimited nature for these events, so everyone with an electric sailplane will have an airframe and motor that will meet the rule requirements.

TASK: Fly three 10minutes rounds unlimited and 5 minute rounds in SOR, using only thermal updrafts with an electric motor powered sailplane.

X5J UNLIMITED rules:
1. Any airframe, motor, battery, ESC, and prop maybe used.
2. Flight time has motor run time subtracted from it.
3. 30point landing tape, in 1 meter increments worth 3pts/m

SOR rules:

1. Any airframe, battery, ESC, prop, motor with 28mm diameter and 17mm
magnet bell length or less.
2. Flight time has motor run time subtracted from it.
3. 30 point landing tape, in 1 meter increments worth 3 pts/m.

]

General Rules:

1. Any part of the airframe maybe used to determine max. landing points.
2. Round motor and flight times to closest second.
3. Motor must be running at launch.
4. Each second of flight time is one point, seconds greater than 10minutes are subtracted.
5. First and additional motor runs, one point per second, loss of landing points on second motor run.

FAI F5J generalized

TASK: Fly three 10minutes rounds, using only thermal updrafts with an electric motor powered sailplane.

1. Any airframe, battery, ESC, prop, motor maybe used. To FAI limits.
2. 10:00 minute window, with flight points starting on launch. Over flying window 0 landing points.
3. A device to record flight starting height, after a 30s or less motor run, at the beginning of the window. To establish starting height fly level for 10s after motor run.
4. .5pts subtracted for each meter of starting height, 3pts subtracted for each meter above 200M, from possible 10minute flight time ((600pts or number of flight seconds) - (starting height(.5 or/and 3))).
5. Same landing tape but 5pts per meter with 50pt possible. Landing points will just be added on since you are not flying in a group to normalize scores.

This event is to establish a general data base and look at different recorded flights to see if there are any concerns on determining starting height.

If you look at these rules you can fly any e sailplane with a logger.

Example: flight time 9:58 seconds, starting height from logger 156M,, 1.5m from end of tape.
598-(156*.5) + 45 = 565pts

This is the same event as X5J just using starting height as the negative value instead of motor run time.

Hope you can joins us for the fun.

Am I missing it or do I not see anything about location in the original post?

I'm also in if the weather holds out. I'll be flying my HiAspect in the unlimited. If I have time, I'll also be flying my Omega 1.8 in the F5J.

Doug, this is a fly at your home field and post your results kind of competition (aka postal).

Good thermals to all who get out.
Best Regards,

If it ever stops raining I may have a go at f5j with the maxa. Wettest summer in at least 30 years here in Sydney.

I’m in for the February event (at least I think I’ll be able to fly).

As usual, I'll fly an Art Hobby e-sailplane in the "unlimited" category of the X5J. I’ll also do the FAI F5J flights as well.

F5J with MiniAVA Pro, or Electron, or eEspada. The espada needs sevos moved, as does the Pike Superior. Hope everyone has Sunshine, and no wind, which makes any temperature better.

Snow thawing, +3C, overcast, wind about 5 m/s, no gloves needed this time - spring is coming soon! On the other hand, it was clear to me that thermals will be scarce (the thawing means that the surface is colder than air = no thermals) so I decided to accompany Ryan and Mike and to fly also the SOR.

Model LS Virus 2m, motor TG 2826-1650, Aeronaut 106, 2S1550 (old and tired, I should get a new one for the next X5J).

F5J
1. 4:04, height 157 m, landing within 1 m = 216 points (motor 25 s)
2. 4:37, 140, 5 m = 237 (motor 21)
3. 5:40, 153, 1 m = 314 (motor 26)
Total 767 points.

SOR:
1. 4:54, motor 27 s, landing within 3 m = 318 points (height 147 m)
2. 5:02, motor 27 s, 2 m = 325 bodů (height 159 m)
3. 5:01, motor 34 s (3x), no landing points = 299 bodů (height 138 m)
Total 942 points.

Thanks, Robert, for the opportunity to get out, and good luck to all of you, guys.

Flew the allegro in SOR. Basically just did 3 flights because it was cold.

Flight 1: 3:45 - 41 s run + 21 land = 205
Flight 2: 2:22 - 22 run 0 land = 120
Flight 3: 1:13 -25 run + 3 land = 51

Total = 356
