I mean in the eyes of the FAA all you have to do is receive valuable consideration. Its a thorny issue though in the past money towards the fuel in a pilots car to get to a flight has been used as an example of valuable consideration. The AMA have clearly outlined that they administer not for profit flights so anything that involves payment at any point would now be dodgy.

When the ink is dry with a UAS which is anything that flies unmanned and can be controlled in three axis, so balloons and kites are exempt. The following sort of things will apply.

Model aircraft are UAS, and are fine as no money will ever change hands for anything.

It will all be fine at shows until somebody is injured. Then insurance companies will ask was any money involved anywhere.
