Mark the sides as a left and right. Mark the slots that correspond to the center body tabs. Bevel the marked slots with a file or knife and bevel the breast plate slots so that the plates fit at 15 degrees off perpendicular.

Step 17


Glue the two sides, the breast plate and center body together. Use T pins to hold in place. I used Gorilla Glue (no water). Insure the structure is symmetric, both sides angled the same. Let dry.

Building tip: From scrap Depron, I cut two right triangles with one side 2" and the other 7.5". This will give you a 15 degree angle and a 75 degree angle. I apply Gorilla Glue to the breast plate and center plate, pin them together with the sides and sit this, breast plate down, on a flat surface. I next pin the triangles to each side to hold the 15/75 degree angles until dry. I also use batteries as weights to help hold things in position.

Step 18


Trim the excess Gorilla Glue with a razor saw. Trim the tabs flush to the sides and lightly sand with a 150 grit sanding block.

Step 19


Cut the tabs on the outer center body parts to 1/8 inch long. Trial fit into the sides. The slots for these pieces are NOT beveled. These pieces will be glued into the sides at 90 degrees.

Step 20


Cut 2 corners from the Depron scraps to make two 90 degree supports. Gorilla Glue the outer center body parts in place. Pin in location. Pin the 90 degree support temporarily in place, until the glue dries.

Since I reduced the side height, you will need to move the top plate tab slot toward the center, one slot width. Cut as shown and glue the piece to the outside. Trial fit the top plate to the body.

Draw the outline of the battery on the head. Make it so it will be snug. Trial fit head, top plate and body together. Using Gorilla Glue, glue the lower head to the top plate. Use a 90 degree angle to position until dry.

Step 23


Draw the servo outline on each side. Locate each servo just behind the prop slot, with the bottom of the servo against the center body. Make the cutout and trial fit servo. Gorilla Glue or CA both servos in place.

Step 24


Carefully epoxy plywood motor mount to the lateral support. Make sure the thrust line is 0/0 to the center body and sides. Since the build, I have added 4 degrees of down thrust by installing a washer between the X mount and plywood mount on the lower 2 screws. You can create the down thrust vector now by raising the tip (prop nut end) of the motor up (toward the top plate, away from the breast plate) about 1/4 of an inch (note diagram attached for clarity). Revision: I have raised the motor 1/4" and added the 4 degrees in the mount and removed shim washers.

Step 25


Using a sanding block and table edge, bevel the edge of the feet to 45 degrees. Check to insure you make a left and right foot/elevon.

Make the battery cutout to the battery profile. If you make it snug, you will not need velcro or tape to hold the battery in position.

Step 27


The first photo is of the 1/8 inch x 40 inch carbon tube and Parkzone Bf 109 Flap Hardware set. Cut the carbon tube into two 7.5 inch pieces and two 12.5 pieces.

On the bottom side of the feet, cut slots inch from the edge for the 7.5 inch carbon tubes. On the bottom of the arms, cut slots as shown for the 12.5 inch carbon tubes.

Step 29


Epoxy the carbon tubes in the slots. Use weights on a flat surface to insure a flat cure. Glue the control horn to the carbon tube. After cure, add control horn screws and backing plate. You will probably have to clear the control horn mounting holes of epoxy residue with a drill.

Step 30


Install the prop with cambered side facing forward and check clearances. This is a 9.5 inch prop. Plenty of room for a 10 inch prop. Adjust the prop slot as needed.
