LedKitty, I seem to recall you have a thing for flying boats. Check out my S-39.

here; is the reason for those folding floats.. drop one and all the fishermen can access the plane at a float/dock. I'd lose the wheel retracts First.

I got only a little more done last night... sorry still no pics. Some nights are busier than others with two little ones to get fed and in bed every night. By the time 9pm rolls around and I have time for myself, I am pooped. But I got the keel and V's in along the bottom of the hull and am ready to sheet it next. There has been a fair amount of beveling that needed to be done to the parts to get nice flush joints... but that's not too difficult a task with sanding block and 100-grit sandpaper. I also use toothpicks dabbed in PU-glue to permanently pin parts together... really helps keep things in place while the joints dry since everything is not tabbed/notched.

For paint, I'm still up-in-the-air between a warbird or civilian scheme, but I'm leaning towards the blue/white Catalina Airlines N322.

Yeah I like Cutter's Goose too... though I don't recall ever watching the show when I was a kid. But how cool would it be to detail the cockpit with Jake Cutter at the controls and his one-eyed dog Jack riding shotgun?

I mean, how cool is this?...

================

Here are photos of some of the CAL Gooses between 1963-68. The blue was a little darker during that stretch. The photo that you have posted had a lighter blue livery (and a little less red) and a flying fish on the bow - maybe painted about 1969-70. Isn't it nice to have choices!

BTW - the retractable pontoons in N323 & N329 allowed us to carry 11 passengers rather than 9 on the fixed-float ships. We put the smaller folks toward the rear!

PS: It is really neat to see this bird coming together!

Wow--that looks great! Your other project looks like she is doing well, too.

Love the Goose. Might have to try working in foam some day, too.

Thanks Paul. Yes, the other project is coming along nicely, but will still be a couple more years before she is ready to fly. But you can be darned sure that dad will be building her something out of foam. Good thing it already comes in pink!

Not much progress. Got the empennage built and I'm starting in on the cockpit/hatch. Our winter was so mild that I hardly had a build season this year
