I read somewhere about a new type of battery for a phone which comes with a charger specially for it...A lady decided to use her normal charger, then a bit later she was using it and it blew her ear off when it exploded...i think that was a lipo and after it had been damaged by the charger just carried on getting hotter untill it went boom, we know this happens......

LI-Poly-powered Cell Phone Explodes!

Get 'em while you still can IMO....I would not be suprised if we see and industry-wide recall after a few people get hurt.

I wonder what "the mark" was really from? (bats eyes)

Not much information in that article to base a conclusion on, but it is my understanding that the bateries in cell phones do have additional charge/discharge protection that is not used for our RC applications.

Will we see "Dateline NBC" or "60 Minutes" pick up on this hazard? After all there is now no reason to worry about getting cancer from cell phone micro waves, you will die in a fire first.

Ahh well, more money for the personal injury lawers......

I saw the wowt article before coming back to Ezone to see if anyone posted. Sure enough, here it is.

I would bet that it is a LiPoly battery. Anyone making phones or PDA's these days will be using them. They're not going to stop using them, nor can they afford to recall all of them. Anyone remember back when the Apple laptops were catching fire like crazy? Didn't stop anyone from using the batteries, just had to fix any design flaws.

My guess is that this was a freak accident. Could happen again, but it doesn't mean that it will happen very often.

Considering how many lithium batteries are out there... One explosion is pretty minor.

Anyone remember the movie "Fight Club", and what he did for a living?

What makes you believe that this was the first and only Lipo cell phone explosion?

kokam lipo never reported fire in phone industry at all even supplied tens of millions cells.Cheap aftermarket battery causes such accident in the market.RC abuse use without protection circuit module and wrong charger cause fire only.please see 'kokam solution for lipo safety' in the post.
