Let's not forget. the Edmund Fitzgerald.
To open Sound Recorder, click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to Entertainment, and then click Sound Recorder.
Once you have Sound Recorder open. Click the Record button, the one with the red dot in it. Sound recorder should now be recording. You want to do this with no system sounds beeping, or music, or video playing. What you want here is to let it record 60 seconds of silence. When it stops recording, click the Edit button then Copy in the drop down list.
Step 7: Click the Edit button again, then Paste insert in the drop down list.
Repeat step 7 till the number under Length reaches 600.00 sec.
Now click the File button, then Properties. In the Properties for Sound window that just opened, cLick the Convert Now button.
Click the tiny black arrow button to the right of Attributes. Scroll down the list till you get to a line that reads: 44.100 kHz. 16 Bit Stereo, and click that, Then you should see that listed to the right of Attributes.
Click the OK button, click the next OK button.
Now click the File button and Save As. Give it a name like 10 minutes of silence. Or what ever you like, pick a location to save it in you can remember.
Now that you have the silent file you can use it over and over again. You only need to create it one time.
To record the audio from one of these U-Tube video's Just double click your silent file and it will open and start to play, click the stop button and then the rewind button. Then click the record button and it will start recording all the sound you have coming out of your speakers. Again you will want to turn off your system sounds so you dont get any extra beeps, bells, and whistles in your recording. Once Sound Recorder has started recording start the video playing and you can watch sound recorder do its thing.
If I assume you have never done this before then you might have to play with the volume control in the video window to get distortion free recordings. You can always stop and restart sound recorder and the video once you figure out the correct volume setting to use when recording. It's ok to listen in while sound recorder is recording. And you can adjust the volume control of the PC speakers too if you like. Adjusting the volume control of the computer and or the volume control of in the video playback window, either one, will affect the record level of the recording.
Once the music stops click the stop button on sound recorder, then click the Edit button and Delete After Current Position. Now rewind sound recorder and click the play button. You should be able to hear the selection from the ".wav" file you just made.
If you like it you can now save it, but give it a different file name. Want to record another one? Close sound recorder, and double click on your silent file, start sound recorder recording and play the next video.
This is a cheep (read free) way to do it. This is what I do to record audio from websites like U-Tube and others.
First I use sound recorder like I described above to make a wav file in 44.100 kHz 16 Bit Stereo (CD Quality).
Then I trim the silence from the beginning and end of the wav file, encode it into a mp3 file, adjust the volume of the file, save it to my music folder, and delete the wav. I use Winamp to play my music collection.
All of the software I use for these purposes was obtained for free from the Internet.
If you have extra cash you can buy a purpose made software package that will do all this for you. But you will have to research that.
I would have gotten to the Year of 39... good match.
I have saved music using http://www.snipmp3.com/
HOWEVER there is a trick to all these kind of sites.
Once you copy the address of the video and click "Convert to MP3",
Click RUN in the pop up window...
You need to wait for a large box to appear with a picture of the video
in the top left corner. Beneath that picture is a download link in light blue letters.
» Download MP3 « - Standard Quality
Click on that little tiny link. Everything else in big DOWNLOAD buttons is an advertisement or something. It is a little awkward and tempting, but only use that little link.
