Ultra-Micro Trainer 100 RTF (UMT)
From Ares RC ( http://www.ares-rc.com/ultramicrotrainer100.html ) and available from HobbyTown USA.
Anybody else have/flying one? Flew it at our dome fly last Thursday ( www.marcee.org ); sparked a lot of interest from Telemaster fans. |

Finally a 4ch high wing design! This would be awesome with UM floats!

Hello everyone,
For anyone that might be interested in the Ultra-Micro Trainer (UMT) 100 RTF, here's some feedback we received recently (also posted on our Facebook page and linked on the 'News' page of our web site): Quote:
• Full-airfoil wing and horizontal tail design for smooth and stable flying even outdoors in light winds • Removable wing with a unique magnetic attachment design (easy to remove/replace without time consuming work or the use of glue and tape!) • 4-channel transmitter with 2.4GHz technology and convenient built-in LiPo battery charger (compatible with the Nano-Micro Stick 75 and future Ares aircraft releases) • Powerful and efficient coreless motor equipped power system (more than 1:1 thrust to weight ratio and the gearbox/motor are easy to access by removing one screw....no time consuiming work to 'cut' the airplane apart to access the power system!) • 150mAh 1S 3.7V LiPo battery with magnetic attachment delivers flight times of up to 20+ minutes per charge Be sure to check out a full review of the UMT in the latest (February 2012) issue of Fly RC that hit mailboxes/store shelves in the last few weeks. You can also see video of the UMT in action, as well as unboxing, review videos and more of the all-new Ares Ultra-Micro MD 500D CX 100 heli on our Facebook page here: http://www.facebook.com/AresRadioControl And as noted above, the transmitter included with the UMT is compatible with the new Nano-Micro Stick 75 (http://ares-rc.com/nanomicrostick75.html) that will be available in a version without transmitter in the near future. Also, the transmitters included with both the RTF version UMT and Nano-Micro Stick 75 will be compatible with future Ares aircraft releases Happy New Year! Jason Ares RC Product Development |

20+ minutes flying time on a 150mah pack? The Vapor is in that range...but this thing? The Champ is probably good for 15 minutes on a 150...but I'd be surprised if Horizon would claim that.
Do they actually advertise this flight time? It actually looks pretty cool though |

Like the plane; not the TX – not likely compatible, so considering:

Removable wing is nice!
The UMT is roughly the same size as Parkzone’s Micro J-3 Cub. For me I need more rudder – can move in on the rudder horn. And, less elevator (could be old/big hands w/little TX); tried but can’t move the control rod in on the servo. Though the AR6400 is wider than the fuselage I think it can be installed by tipping it on its side; then I can use my 9503. Will likely remove the magnets too; as, she seems a bit nose heavy to me – nice/safe for a “trainer”. Hope to get it to do great 3 channel aeros via the above – can’t get a roll from my mCub. |

I wouldn't be surprised if it had the same servo mechanicals as the old Flyzone stuff, which reputedly had some issues. The airfoil is an unusual design for a micro model, but it does seem to fly very well.
Non-DSM2 is a deal-killer for me, but if you sell the parts cheap enough, I might get one as a kit. I can't seem to find them, though, which is a bit worrying for a trainer. |

Yes, 20+ minute flight times are advertised with confidence See here: http://ares-rc.com/ultramicrotrainer100.html My typical flights include quite a few nearly vertical climbs out of sight and lots of 3-channel aerobatics (loops, stall turns, barrel rolls, spins...and some inverted flight too) and flight durations are right around 20 minutes. Here also is a related quote from an article Jon Barnes (frequent contributor/reviewer here on RCG) put together with coverage of our local electric fun fly and posted on www.HDFlyer.com: Quote:
Hello UNGN, The control unit is similar but not exactly the same and includes a number of updates. Best of all they've proven to be robust and extremely reliable with no issues noted after shipping thousands of units so far (servos included!). Hello UJ/jrb, As with most of the 'micro' transmitters included with ultra-micro class models it will take some getting used to if you're used to flying with a 'full-size' transmitter. I really like the convenience of having the charger built into the transmitter though so that's what I use when flying the UMT (also nice because the stock transmitter fits back in the box for easy transport ). Also, I usually move the pushrods in one hole from the 'stock' position on the control horns to increase rudder and elevator travel. The stock setup/travel works well for first-time/low-time pilots but more experienced pilots will definitely appreciate added travel for aerobatics in particular. CG with the stock 150mAh battery may be a tad nose heavy for more experienced pilots but does work well for first-time/low-time pilots and outdoors in light wind conditions. Switching to a 110-125mAh battery brings the CG back and makes the elevator a bit more responsive which can be good for experienced pilots when flying in smaller indoor spaces (like a basketball gym). Wouldn't suggest trying any lower capacity batteries and/or removing the magnets from the nose though as the CG may be a bit too far back then. Hello Cheesehead, The full-airfoil wing (and horizontal tail) design is definitely unique for this class of ultra-micro model but does work extremely well. The UMT can fly almost as slow as most similar class models with ‘undercambered’ wing designs yet can also fly faster and penetrate wind a bit better. Also, parts availability is extremely important to us and as a result all parts are in stock and readily available from HobbyTown stores and on www.HobbyTown.com. You can see the complete parts list here: http://ares-rc.com/products/product.asp?id=6 |
