Did it have any issues with flutter? The second page mentions something about launch damage...
Memory stress here -- but I think it was just an easily repaired crack/buckle in the inboard joiner arrangement - bending loads - no flutter.

Time to get out the fiberglass and balsa sheet supply. With Kent's molded sheet structure, a new build of that wing with new structural tricks and airfoils would be a natural for brushless power.

A friend on another forum found this on pg 42 of the March 1948 issue of Flying Magazine. No article, just the blurb. Not a model but definitely older.

Has anyone seen one of the plan attached fly/built? French from 1942 apparently. For some reason I really like it.

From highly-cambered center airfoil, through symmetrical, to inverted camber at tips! Should be interesting. And pretty. Some measurements and calculations would tell how it files, but that wouldn't be in the spirit of Older Wings.

I wonder if the predictive tools we have now, much less the gyro-stabilized, self-flying plug-n-play toys were available back in the early 1960's when I was building and covering and doping and crashing, if I would have stuck with the hobby. There was a lot of satisfaction in the creation.

I'm afraid that I have not mastered the tools well enough to use and understand them. Accord to legend it was designed by French servicemen in a Nazi POW camp.

That fact alone would make it worthwhile to resurrect and build the Aile Volante to honor their courage in a very bad situation... even if it's only a legend. Maybe "Legend" would be a good name for the design.

Someone with a laser cutter needs to get this bird in the air!
