Single B2 motor gear drive flyers

I tried to power a 17" span Micro-IFO using a single geared B2 motor. The flyer weighed 1.6oz without batteries. During flight tests, all I got were really extended glides.

I tried 5-8 cells of 120mah and 150mah NiMh cells, 3.75:1 and 5:1 gearing, and every GWS prop from 4x2.5 to 6x5, plus Gunthers.

On the other hand, a dual B2 motor drive, geared 3.75 and using a GWS 6x5, produced a pretty fast and agile indoor pylon racer.

At 2.8oz, the Roadkill planes seem to fly very well. Using 7 cells, my single-motor Micro-IFO weighed only 2.6oz but can only do really extended glides.

What is going on? Is the draggy design of the IFO the culprit?
